Airbus Defense and Space, Inc. in North America (ADSI) is looking for an experienced Mechanical Space Systems Engineer to support our Space Programs line of business. Reporting to the Head of US Space Programs, the Mechanical Space Systems Engineer will be responsible for satellite design activities for a medium sized, mass produced satellite based on the satellite designed and manufactured by OneWeb Satellites, a Joint Venture of Airbus Defense and Space Inc.
Customize the OneWeb Satellites manufactured satellite platform marketed as the ARROW platform to meet customer requirements:
o Design and implement mechanical design changes required to support new payloads and payload interface units compatible with the ARROW platform
o Experience working in mechanical or structural design of mechanisms, structures, propulsion elements, and electronics assemblies
o Support the development of system level requirements and requirement flow-down to the various disciplines, subsystems, and components - in all phases of the systems development lifecycle with particular emphasis on Design for Cost/Design for Manufacturability/Design for Test approaches
o Ensure the maximum reuse of the existing ARROW product and if necessary identify need for modification
Ability to drive multiple design activities (programs or mission) could lead to spacecraft, payload, satellite bus, and/or launch integration activities;
Demonstrated ability to participate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution situations involving the full spectrum of engineering and integration activities;
Support the ARROW development product roadmap: includes design adjustments, schedule, and cost targets aligned for future business captures.
Support the definition of ARROW customization process for customer mission needs.
Perform all the necessary mechanical engineering activities to build, to maintain and to develop an ARROW product. Promote and optimize cost savings by reuse of the platform design and manufacturing infrastructure in the pursuit of various constellation prospects.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:
Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas or combination of education and experience.
A minimum of ten (10) years' experience required in mechanical systems engineering for satellite systems (payloads, structures, avionics, telemetry, tracking & control, propulsion, power, thermal, assembly/integration/test).
Proven track-record of working with satellite mechanical systems, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs thru detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, and test.
Design for Manufacturing/Design for Test experience highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
Proficiency with Mechanical Engineering tools such as Solidworks and ANSYS and/or NASTRAN
Familiarity with elements of space mission architectures extending beyond the satellite platform including launch, flight operations, mission CONOPS, user interfaces, etc.
Proficiency with MS Office applications.
Ability to lead a small team of mechanical/structural engineers involved in multiple projects.
Communicate in a clear and concise manner effectively across multiple levels.
Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment.
Flexible attitude and strong initiative.
Demonstrated ability to deliver results.
Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):
Excellent listening, comprehension & interpersonal skills as responsible for daily communication via email and phone calls required.
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication (verbal/writing), and presentation skills.
Significant presence (80%) in Cape Canaveral, FL to work alongside OneWeb Satellites engineering staff
Presence in Washington, DC area (20%) to coordinate with and represent to various customers and mission partners
Occasional International travel to collaborate with European Airbus counterparts
We are open to the candidate's residential location, as long as the candidate is willing to travel to the above listed geographies
US citizenship is required
Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance
Active DoD security clearance at Secret or above highly desireable.
