This role will be responsible for leading projects comprised of products derived from new, water soluble film chemistries and cost productivity programs. In addition, he/she will be responsible for exploring and developing new chemistries and materials that can lead to new products or improve processes and leverage modifications of existing products for new customers. This position will drive the development using the MonoSol Innovation Process (A stage/gate process). He/she will lead the teams through effective project management, coordination, communication. She/He will also provide technical support for marketing, sales, operations and our customers.
This position is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated, detail-oriented individual able to perform both routine and specialized laboratory activities, while executing development projects within the R&D group of a fast growing company.
Lead and coordinate new products and processes development projects, utilizing MonoSol’s innovation process and tools.
Interact with customers as needed to understand product application and performance requirements
Utilize advanced data interpretation methods to evaluate new materials, existing products and processes to meet internal and external customer requirements. Translate product needs to experimental data or design parameters.
Direct qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis and physical property testing of ingredients, materials and products and coordinates with external laboratories as needed.
Works closely to support larger scale material development and qualification runs at the pilot plant and manufacturing.
Work with cross-functional teams to resolve existing product and raw material/component issues (Procurement, Finance, Engineering, and Production)
Confer with fellow scientists, engineers, operations, sales, and marketing team members on development projects, interpreting test results, or developing nonstandard tests
Work with external vendors as necessary to develop new technology for new products and processes and new analytical techniques.
Write technical papers and reports and prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, or tests
Requires a flexible work style and travel as necessary to perform assignments.
B.S or M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science
2-5 years of laboratory experience required
Strong understanding of engineering and polymer/plastics fundamentals with solid conceptual skills; strong project management
Strong analytical, creativity and problem solving skills
Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification a plus; demonstrated understanding of basic statistics for Six Sigma process; familiar with Minitab, Jmp or similar statistical tools.
Must be capable of working independently with limited supervision
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must have excellent organizational skills
Has general working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Office, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
