Job Title: Consultant (Primary Role: Content Writer)
THIS IS A REMOTE POSITION
PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT ON APPROPRIATE CONTRACT AWARD. IT IS NOT AN IMMEDIATE OPEN POSITION.
The So Company is looking for a Consultant to join our growing team that provides development services to federal, state, and local government agencies and private sector organizations. This opportunity is for a disciplined, flexible, and empathic consultant whose primary role will be working as a content writer. This consultant will help build our practice by helping clients improve and deliver consistent content and content strategy across all of their products. The consultant is interested in working on service design challenges and has the ability to work remotely and in distributed teams.
About The So Company:
The So Company is a growing services consulting firm headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, with team members spread across multiple states and the District of Columbia. Since 2014, The So Company's teams have supported federal, state, and local government agencies and private sector organizations by helping improve services delivery, for example, improving usability on HealthCare.gov for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and VA.gov (formerly Vets.gov) for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Who you are:
The ideal candidate is passionate about content, but also curious and excited about all aspects of creating great user experiences.
Who are we looking for:
An individual contributor in The So Company is a member of a team and not just a writer, editor, content strategist, designer, researcher, or software engineer. While we look for candidates that are specialists in their fields, the right candidate excels in a team with various skill sets and abilities and will often be asked to perform duties outside of their core role. They are able to work in environments that highlight not only their unique skills, but also their problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Our work is frequently presented to the most senior U.S. government officials, such as the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives and the Executive Office of the President.
Researching complex topics and distilling information into clear, compelling, and accurate content
Adapting voice and writing style across a range of topics, audiences, and digital channels
Presenting content strategy recommendations—and the strategic thinking behind them—to clients
Using metrics and feedback to continually improve content
Managing your own time and deadlines in a remote, project-based environment while working both independently and on distributed teams
3-5 years' experience creating user-centered digital content (with experience in the fields of health care, education, and/or technology a plus)
Experience implementing content strategy, UX, and SEO best practices
Extremely detail-oriented, with an understanding of how to properly source and reference content
Keen interest in always learning more and asking questions to get to the best solution for users
Familiarity with content management systems and online project management tools, with a willingness to adapt to new systems and tools as needed for different clients and projects
A team-oriented mindset with great communication skills
Proven ability to learn new technology quickly and proficiently
Language: English (Required)
Previous work experience in one or more of the following areas:
Remote work, especially work with distributed teams
Government contracting work
Compensation structure and benefits: Salaried
Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)
Position is at-will and begins with a 90-day probationary period.
This is a remote position that requires the candidate to provide basic connectivity and workspace. Alternatively, workspace may be provided in New York City in existing So Company office space as space is available.
Travel consistent with consulting responsibilities will be expected — may be up to 20% or higher depending on the on-site client requirements.
United States citizens only. Must be willing and able and may be required to obtain a SECRET security clearance. Verification of identity, education, prior employment, and references may be required.
