Cleveland-Cliffs Cleveland Works has an immediate opening for an Engineer in our Environmental Department. The following primary position responsibilities and key position requirements are intended to provide an overview of the position but are not all-inclusive. Summary of Responsibilities:Manage various aspects of environmental services and be familiar with all major disciplines, including air, water, solid waste, SARA, etc. Interpret environmental regulations and determine impact to facility.
Advance superior conformance through root cause analysis and management of necessary corrective actions to prevent recurrences.Function as key member of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) implementation and certification process. Develop and implement environmental strategies, plans and procedures.Manage environmental projects and provide technical direction to plant departments. Prepare federal, state and local permit applicationsAssist with the development and implementation of corrective action plansPrepare appropriate internal and external reports and timely submit utilizing proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, as well as various internal computerized systems. Provide direction and oversight to environmental contractors and consultants.Conduct environmental employee training.Conduct internal environmental auditsParticipate in rotating on-call responsibilities, including ability to respond to environmental emergency situations twenty-four hours a day.Interact with various local, State and Federal regulatory agencies and the general public.Work independently and handle multiple priorities.
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering or equivalent or related discipline.Knowledge of Federal and State environmental laws and regulations and of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard.Problem solving, facilitation and implementation skills.Strong verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related discipline preferred.Prefer five years of professional experience in an environmental related discipline.
