The Design & Analysis Engineer will work in MAHLE Powertrain's Design & Development group, carrying our design engineering and related activities to deliver successful engineering projects. This person will be involved in creating design solutions for powertrain systems and components using CAD and CAE tools. In addition, she/he will provide Technical support of business development activities and Interact with all relevant disciplines to ensure successful project delivery.
Note that the following requirements do not necessarily have to be fulfilled by a single candidate. Candidates who meet the requirements only partially should still apply. For example, we have tasks for Electrical engineers as well as Mechanical, and for candidates with analytical skills as well as Design.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Devise & generate ideas for design solutions to fulfil specified requirements then develop them to completed hardware. Tasks will include Internal Combustion Engines, Automotive Electrification, Renewable Energy, aerospace, marine, and other mechanical, thermodynamic and electrical engineering systems.
Create 3D solid models and 2D drawings using CAD tools.
Use 1D and 3D analytical models (e.g., Excel based, GT-Suite, CFD, FEA….) to support engineering design optimizations.
Create product, system & component specifications and support other process documentation such as FMEAs etc.
Resolve problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, and concepts.
Apply problem solving skills to engineering challenges.
Deliver projects on time and within budget.
Produce images and engineering data to support project leadership and management.
Produce written reports to communicate design concepts, details and problems.
Work closely with both clients and suppliers, in addition to internal engineering teams and management.
Attends conferences and other forums and activities to remain informed of industry research trends and gaps.
Identify suitable manufacturing processes.
Work within the design department quality assurance system, completing design review paperwork as required.
Assist with quotation generation for new projects.
Ensure ethical conduct and a customer focus on customer programs.
Required to observe all safety rules and regulations. Must act safely and be responsible for the safety of others around the work area.
Maintain awareness of, and meet, the requirements of the Company Quality System.
Employee’s duties are not limited to those stated above but are inclusive of any tasks assigned by supervisor/manager.
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related discipline.
Previous experience working in an R&D or production environment.
At least 5 years’ working experience preferred
Proficiency or some prior experience of one relevant CAD system.
Proficiency or some prior experience of one relevant analysis system (1D or 3D, including analysis created in Excel or other software environments).
Knowledge of the fundamental engineering principles that are relevant in powertrain systems, renewable energy, aerospace or similar fields, & component operation.
Detail design capability, including manufacturing tolerance application, GD&T & tolerance stack calculations.
Ability to read and interpret 2D engineering drawings.
Experience operating CAD systems (2D or 3D) or a good aptitude for engineering software and the ability to learn to use and apply them quickly.
Previous experience of component & systems design or experience of engine hardware & operation (powertrain design experience preferable).
Experience or understanding of basic manufacturing techniques and practices.
