Ulteig is seeking talented and motivated candidates for a Renewables Civil Engineer role working out of our Fargo, ND, Austin, TX, or St. Paul, MN office supporting utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects. The selected candidate will engage with Ulteig’s civil, structural, and electrical design teams and our clients to provide innovative, forward thinking design solutions to facilitate the development, design, and construction of solar projects. The Engineer must be able to interpret publicly available GIS data, legal and topographic surveys, environmental field work, hydrology studies, and geotechnical reports and recommendations along with proposed site plans to produce best-value PV field designs with respect to site constraints, review preliminary design and mapping products provided by others for consistency with Ulteig’s and Client’s design intent, develop detailed design geometry, and assist Clients in mitigating project constraints and environmental conditions throughout project execution. The desired candidate must be able to execute complex assignments under minimal supervision and visually portray complex design features. The ability to handle multiple projects at once and prioritize work tasks to meet scheduled deadlines will be essential. Candidates should also be self-motivated with excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment. What You'll Do
Apply current, standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to complete engineering tasks, and supports other civil, structural, and electrical design workflows as necessary on a case by case basis.
Develop plans, specifications, and observation reports that are complete, accurate and in accordance with sound utility-scale solar engineering practices.
Recommend alterations to development criteria and design features to improve quality.
Work closely with and provides guidance to engineering technicians and design engineers.
Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish project goals.
Involved technically with the resolution of design challenges that may include performing field investigation or observations and when necessary resolving discrepancies between multiple sources of information.
Check design computations performed by internal civil design team when appropriate.
Prepare reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects.
Review plans and specifications for construct-ability, safety, and risk management considerations.
Maintain a value engineering mindset throughout development, design, and construction.
Work closely with business and engineering staff across multiple markets and technical disciplines.
Work closely with clients to understand nuanced technical needs and identify best feasible solution(s).
Support marketing, sales and business development activities within assigned market.
Demonstrate a wide degree of out-of-the-box thinking, creativity, and design ownership.
Work primarily in the office, with up to 20% of the time in the field, visiting clients, and representing Ulteig at conferences and trade shows as warranted.
Must have permanent authorization to work in US.
What We Expect from You
B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent is required.
Civil Professional Engineer (PE) registration required, NCEES Council Record is preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience performing civil design and development of utility scale solar projects in a fast-paced consulting environment is required.
Proficient at large scale grading design, additions to existing civil designs, and earthwork calculations is required.
Familiarity with erosion and sediment control applications in arid environments and cost effective nonvegetative stabilization techniques is highly desired.
Experience performing detailed design of solar facilities with complex topographic, environmental, and non-participating infrastructure constraints is highly desired.
Stormwater management and permitting experience is highly desired.
Experience developing Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plans (SPCC) preferred.
Experience developing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) and performing SWPPP inspections preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D is required.
GIS experience highly desired.
Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
