The Office of Innovation & Technology (OIT) is the central IT department for the City of Philadelphia led by the Chief Information Officer. The Office of Innovation & Technology (OIT) is the central IT agency for the City of Philadelphia, headed by the Chief Information Officer (CIO).
OIT oversees all major information and communications technology initiatives for the City of Philadelphia - increasing the effectiveness of the information technology infrastructure, where the services provided are advanced, optimized, and responsive to the needs of the City of Philadelphia’s businesses, residents and visitors. In addition, OIT provides leadership and expertise on the design, integration, and management of data across city government.
The Office of Innovation and Technology (OIT) oversees most major technology projects for the City of Philadelphia, ensures continuity of the City's technology operations, and finds new ways to help the public interact meaningfully with technology. OIT uses technology to help City employees do their work better and helps residents get what they need from municipal government. Additionally, OIT offers an innovation service portfolio focused on developing municipal government’s capacity for creativity and innovation.
The Systems/Platform Engineer is responsible for cross platform technologies, which includes data storage, backup, recovery, Active Directory, security, and other related infrastructure needs. The Systems Engineer is a technical position which encompasses SAN administration, Backups, Disaster Recovery planning, Active Directory needs, storage architectural planning and design, server engineering, networking, and security. This role is critical within the Philadelphia Police Department's IT infrastructure, thus sound technical knowledge in the subject area as well as consistent reliability is required. This position includes responsibilities for supporting the Philadelphia Police Department's infrastructure; therefore, professional skills along with the ability to work within a team are necessary.
- Strong networking skills required
- Provisioning SAN storage, SAN administration, performance tuning, monitoring and management (EMC, Dell, HP)
- Provide level 3 systems troubleshooting & problem resolution
- Storage capacity planning
- Managing backup solutions
- Planning and implementing software and firmware upgrades
- Manage capacity upgrades
- Provide primary support for infrastructure systems
- Applications deployments and migration activities
- Server monitoring
- Address security concerns
- Active Directory implementation, administration, and maintenance activities
- Address infrastructure needs
- Virtualization activities - creation, migration, administration, and maintenance
- Provide engineering and administration of storage and server infrastructures
- Test systems for vulnerabilities in hardware and software
- Scheduling and managing backups and associated media
- Manage SAN, NAS and backup/recovery/archiving (CommVault).
- Manage Windows Desktop Operating Systems: Windows 7 and 10, and create desktop images
- Formatting and executing basic OS commands
- Active Directory Administration
- Perform Active Directory File management tasks
- VMWare Vsphere 5.0
- Scripting Technologies - VB Script, WMI, Power Shell
SAN, NAS and backup/recovery/archiving (CommVault).
Storage certifications from EMC, Dell, HP, IBM or NetApp preferred.
Working knowledge of various Systems operating environment including:
Windows Server 2008/2012/2016/2019
Formatting and executing basic OS commands
Navigating through directory structures
Windows Server administration and management
Dell vxRail Technology
Active Directory Administration
VMWare Vsphere 5.0
VB Script, WMI, Power Shell
Industry standard security protocols:
SSL, TLS, IPSec, Secure HTTP (S-HTTP), PGP and S/MIME, DNSSEC, SSH, etc.
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university, which has included major course work in Computer Science, information science, systems analysis, software engineering, or a closely related field is a plus, but not required.
Minimum of 3 years of technical experience in areas of solution engineering, design, Storage Area Networking, change management, capacity planning, and system security.
Experience with advanced troubleshooting.
Experience with SAN, NAS and backup/recovery/archiving (CommVault preferred).
Storage certifications from Dell, HP, IBM or NetApp preferred.
Backup and Recovery certifications a plus.
