POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Production Engineer
Reports To: Director of Manufacturing Engineering
Classification: Exempt
Status: Regular, Fulltime
Location: Midland, MI
Job Summary:
The Production Engineer has responsibility and accountability for the technology & assets, as well as the achievement of the plant related business goals for his/her area of assigned responsibility. Under the guidance of the Engineering Manager the role delivers hands on Engineering, Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S), Quality, and Operations Leadership to an empowered, work process driven, manufacturing organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Production Engineer has responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day operation of a variety of manufacturing, fabrication and assembly equipment, including:
Support the department in the execution of process technologies to meet business demands.
Become the subject matter expert for all manufacturing equipment in the department.
Implement process and equipment improvements with detailed technical engineering skills. This is a true technical engineering position and must be able to thoroughly understand mechanical equipment.
Lead plant troubleshooting efforts and coordinate improvement projects with plant operations.
Develop, update, and implement job procedures and operating discipline. Participate in training operating personnel.
Ensures implementation and ongoing effectiveness of operating discipline, management systems, enabling technologies and roles. Manages and implements systems to reduce variation, produce quality products, reduce inventory, and reduce costs of operations to meet customer needs.
Develop and maintain plant engineering and equipment specifications, process and instrument diagrams, process flow diagrams, material balances, and other key documented process knowledge.
Position Qualifications:
Minimum of BSME or BSEE.
5+ years of manufacturing plant experience
Experience with project management and technology improvement processes.
Understanding of design of experiments (DOE), root cause analysis, statistical process control and process improvement methodologies.
Good understanding of manufacturing control systems and process automation.
Hands-on equipment problem solver that can personally run equipment through HMIs.
Experience in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment.
Able to properly perform Risk Management developing PFMEA’s
Software skills including MS Office professional package, MS Project and CAD.
Must be able to meet physical requirements test including but not limited to the ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time, bend, push/pull and climb stairs and ladders rated for 300 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
