We are seeking a talented professional with a proven track record of engineering and operationalizing a next generation analytics solution suite using Cloud (Azure) and Big Data Technologies. Standard is leveraging Azure for complex computational tasks, and services such as Azure Data Factory and Azure HDInsight to automate extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes and crunch big data. Our specialized engineering team is partnering with the actuarial function to modernize processes and use our technical capabilities to transform our platforms, modernize and create new capabilities, and expand their toolset. We seek to reimagine the relationship between people, processes, and technology to unlock the full potential of our actuarial staff.

A Typical Day in Your World:
Consult with business users early and often, and develop agile working prototypes that facilitate development of data architecture
Be familiar with best practices for data governance and metadata management; facilitate integration between business solutions and our enterprise data strategy
Recommend and implement relational databases or NoSQL databases as appropriate based on use case.
Design and develop high quality, scalable software modules for next generation analytics solution
Prototype high impact innovations, catering to changing business needs, by leveraging new technologies (Azure – Cloud and Big Data)
Partners with members of actuarial, finance and risk functions to develop end-to-end understanding of relevant modeling processes and associated data flows
Coordinate activities with cross-functional IT unit stakeholders (e.g., infrastructure, architecture, database, operations, technical support, etc.)
Researches and evaluates alternative solutions and recommends the most efficient and cost effective solution for the systems design
Prepares diagrams, charts and tables to assist in analyzing problems, utilizing various business, scientific, engineering and mathematical techniques and tailor effectively to communicate information to all levels within the organization.
Promote and drive innovation in technologies, processes, and tools.
Proactively explore and recommend opportunities to create business value and improve operational efficiency through technology and process improvement.
What You Bring to the Team
At least 4 years ETL / Data Integration Technologies experience
At least 2 years in Big Data / Cloud (AZURE)/ PowerBI experience
Ability to build a reliable, scalable, and near real-time central data repositories leveraging cloud-based technologies.
Ability to build insights and intelligence on top of our central data repository. Strong data modeling skills.
Experience in distributed systems, some of which are in the data warehouse or data infrastructure software development.
Knowledge of Azure, Azure Functions, Pipelines, ADLS & Github
Strong data warehouse applications knowledge (in insurance domain a plus)
Efficient scripting skills in languages like PowerShell, Python, PHP
Possesses functional knowledge and skills reflective of a competent practitioner with the ability to deliver on work of highest technical complexity
Experienced in Agile and Kanban Methodologies
Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and at least four, typically six or more years’ experience in IT systems analysis and application program development, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Now, Blow Our Minds:
Azure / Big Data Technologies certification preferred
Knowledge of ErWin modeling, Big Data Distributed Processing (HDFS, Hive, Spark, PySpark), Azure, Data Analytical languages R, Python preferred
Solid programming skills in Microsoft Technologies
An applied understanding of the principles of accounting under Statutory, U.S. GAAP and Economic bases is desirable. A plus if you have experience in actuarial analysis and finance including principles-based actuarial modeling and estimation, financial forecasting, capital market pricing, and numerical analysis in support of pricing, valuation or risk management.
