PRIMARY POSITION FUNCTION/SUMMARY:
Facilities & Services (F&S) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is accepting applications for Engineer Specialist. The Engineer Specialist will provide detailed design documents for Building Automation Systems (BAS). This position will provide expert engineering services and energy management to the mechanical system controlled by the EMS Building Automation Controls. The primary systems on campus are Siemens PXC and Schneider Electric IA systems. The position will provide technical expertise and direction to the System and Controls Crafts and Trade shops on various projects. This position will also interact with other divisions of Facilities and Services to provide EMS shop support to the campus in an effective and efficient manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide detailed shop drawings on Direct Digital Controls (DDC) systems that serves HVAC systems. This includes full equipment and component selection, detail component arrangement and point to point wiring diagrams, schematics and layouts.
Review, modify, and create engineering designs for HVAC mechanical equipment for the purpose of campus energy management through conservation measures.
Perform energy payback analysis on energy conservation measures.
Determine and provide detailed scope and budget for proposed control replacements or new projects. Provide estimates or fixed cost bids for System and Controls design project requests.
Assist in managing the System and Controls shop projects to meet budget and schedule.
Provide detailed engineering review of projects designed by in house personnel and outside consultants. Prepare written review comments for items not in accordance with the Campus Facility Standards and for items not compatible, coordinated, or acceptable for the use proposed.
Provide Technical support for System and Controls shops: (a) Troubleshooting of existing or new control installations that are not functioning properly. Identify problems, determine appropriate resolutions, and recommend corrective actions. (b) Provide assessment of new technologies, equipment, and systems as needed. (c) Lead the preparation, review, coordination, and implementation of the System and Controls Campus Standards.
Design, plan, and support electronic door access on campus as needed.
Prepare and/or review estimates for electronic door access as needed.
Other duties as assigned
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Energy Systems or field related to the position.
One year of demonstrated work experience identifying, verifying, implementing energy conservation and payback analysis.
Demonstrated experience creating engineering project design documents for and troubleshooting Building Automation System.
Experience with Siemens, Schneider Electric I/A control systems.
Experience working in a University setting.
Master's degree in Energy Systems
Experience in identifying and implementing energy conservation measures.
SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION:
This is a full-time Civil Service Program Coordinator position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after February 3, 2020. Salary is commensurate with experience.
