Hexagon Purus Systems Canada Ltd., a new division of the Hexagon Composites company, is focused on designing and manufacturing systems and software to support zero emission e-Mobility offerings including commercial Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV). Hexagon Composites is a global company operating in 40 countries with over 60,000 commercial vehicles in operation.
Hexagon Purus Systems Canada Ltd., comprised of the former Agility Fuel Solutions’ (a wholly owned Hexagon Composites subsidiary) business divisions focused on hydrogen storage systems and electric battery packs and drivetrains, is currently seeking a Mechanical Design and Simulations Engineer to work out of our Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada office.
Create mechanical part and assembly designs using parametric 3D CAD tools
Generate complete mechanical manufacturing packages for suppliers, including 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, top-level BOMs, part and system-level specifications
Model, configure and run thermal and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models
Use CFD tools to evaluate product and system designs to meet a given set of requirements
Construction of finite element analysis (FEA) models from CAD geometry
Develop FEA models of mechanical parts and assemblies, then perform static, dynamic, structural, and thermal-mechanical analysis
Work with the electrical engineering team to perform current density analysis on conductive parts to optimize electro-mechanical performance
Defines mechanical reliability test procedures to validate performance goals
Participates in brainstorming sessions and other team meetings intended to define design priorities and performance goals based on client objectives.
Root cause and failure analysis of difficult mechanical problems.
Drive material characterization and test plans related to your modeling efforts.
Propose solutions to problems based on analytical outputs
Develop engineering specifications and create applicable processes to ensure design validation of critical issues
Researches and proposes innovative technology enablers (e.g. materials, manufacturing and components) and recognizes and targets potential areas for patent protection
Leads and mentors less experienced team members, shares new design engineering insights and promotes a positive team environment.
Communicate and report analysis results to a cross-functional team
Translate results into design recommendations based on given design requirements
Write reports, develop presentations and author technical proposals
Research and develop modeling techniques and simulation processes
Effectively communicate one’s findings to internal/external customers using appropriate media
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
2 – 4 years of experience in product design, mechanical engineering experience.
Skills and Qualifications
Previous experience with full product development cycle, including design, test, validation, and manufacturing
Experience with 3D CAD (Creo Parametric 5.0, Solidworks, ANSYS and Abaqus an asset)
Experience with muliphysics, CFD, FEA, or other numerical analysis (COMSOL, ANSYS, and Matlab)
Proven experience in design-for-manufacturing (DFM), design-for-assembly (DFA) and design-for-disassembly (DFD).
Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, particularly solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
Must be familiar with failure criteria and fatigue-life prediction for design of metal, plastics, and composite parts
Experience with experimental setups and data analysis
Experience with high velocity impact analysis an asset
Automotive experience is a definite asset
Experience working in laminate composites an asset
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
Some travel is required
