Senior Structural Engineer – Buildings

STV, Inc. is seeking a Structural Engineer - Buildings for our Transportation and Infrastructure division in our Fairfax VA Office which offers free on-site parking and is a short walk from Metro’s Dunn-Loring Station. We have a thriving practice with a close-knit, team-oriented group that is growing rapidly. Due to our success, we need to continue to add resources to assist with the delivery of our current extensive backlog of work of some of the larger and more complex design projects in the region.

This role offers the opportunity to function as a key resource in support of our Fairfax office, and have a direct impact on the improvement of infrastructure within the region.
This position offers excellent potential for career advancement as this individual will have the opportunity to assume the team leader role in 1-2 years time. They will would assist other engineers in guiding projects with the different municipal agencies and would function as a leader on the team with respect to building and facility structural design.
You will be responsible for leading the structural design on building projects, transit stations, transit maintenance facilities and other structures.
The preferred candidate should have:
Broad expertise in structural engineering design for vertical structures and facilities.
Worked on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations requires an evaluation of advanced theories, concepts and principles.
Exercised independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation of criteria for obtaining results.
Acted independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments. May supervise engineer design and/or the activities of others.
Proficiency with Autodesk Revit design software.
Experience leading structural design teams and/or the activities of others. Lead a group of other professional engineers on projects.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required, Master’s degree preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) License in Virginia (VA),
5+ years of related experience in the design of vertical structures and facilities
Must be self-directed with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
Ability to plan and coordinate work effort needed to meet deadlines
Adaptability, resourcefulness, and ability to apply structural engineering knowledge to the development of engineering plans for vertical facilities and structures, in particular for transportation related projects
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to work on a team and communicate with clients.
LEED certification preferred but not required.
Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
