The Mechanical Development group at Mercury Marine is looking for a Mechanical Development Engineer to develop lubrication/cooling/exhaust systems in Mercury Engines. The Mechanical Development group is responsible for the design, testing, development, and validation of engine fuel, lubrication, cooling, exhaust, valve train and power cylinder systems for Mercury Outboards, MerCruiser Sterndrive engines, and Mercury high-speed diesel marine engines.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Lead engine system development from concept to production.
Understand functional requirements and design system to meet program goals.
On new engine programs, work with component engineers and the analysis group to ensure component designs will meet the system requirements.
Develop component & system FMEA, DVP and execute tests, both on the dynamometer and in the boat.
Analyze test data and make recommendations for product improvement.
Analyze engine systems in 1D system modeling tools like GT-Suite.
Communicate test results and recommendations to design engineers and program management.
Create technical reports documenting development activities.
Must be able to work independently when needed to develop solutions with little supervision. Must also be able to work well with cross-functional groups including technicians, design engineers, analysis engineers, and program managers.
Implements company goals within a team structure and as an individual.
Minimum B.S Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
3-5 years of engineering experience working with internal combustion engines, thermal, and fluid systems.
A strong working knowledge of fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Good analytical skills.
M.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
5+ years engineering experience working with internal combustion engines, lubrication, thermal, and fluid systems.
Experience with data acquisition systems and instrumentation selection.
Experience with system modeling tools such as GT-Suite or LMS Amesim.
Familiar with Six Sigma (LSS or DFSS) processes.
