Position Title: Battery Chemist

Reports To: Director of R&D

Classification: Exempt

Status: Regular Full-time

Location: Pontiac, MI (90%) and Midland, MI (10%)

Job Summary:
The Battery Chemist is responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of R&D pilot scale equipment and manual cell fabrication equipment for the production of XALT Energys advanced lithium ion batteries. The individual will possess a good working knowledge of cell assembly and fabrication and the key requirements of construction of excellent Li-ion batteries. Candidate will be capable of working cross functionally with professionals and technicians of XALT Energy.

Primary Responsibilities:
Utilize installed laboratory equipment to fabricate lithium-ion based electrodes, half coin cells, full coin cells, and pouch cells.
Proactively use laboratory equipment to synthesize materials, perform experiments by preparing samples and autopsy cells at end of life.
Partner with Scientist or Engineer to continually upgrade of cell assembly and fabrication technology and expertise within XALT Energy for the benefit of both the R&D/pilot capabilities in Pontiac and the full scale manufacturing in Midland Battery Park.
Sets up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as microscopes, agitators, chemical balance scales, and other equipment as necessary.
Contribute to lab infrastructure and safety decisions. Work safely and in compliance with all regulations and quality systems.
Develop standard operating procedures and safety procedures for cell fabrication process.
Utilize installed equipment to optimize cell construction and quality and adjust operational conditions for pilot and large scale cell fabrication operations.
Safely performing operational adjustments, transfer of materials, process troubleshooting.
Undertake equipment maintenance per manufacturers guidelines.
Inspect and adjust cell assembly equipment.
Transfer and handle materials needed to operate equipment and produce product.
Interface with computer systems to enter and retrieve data and analyze operational information

Position Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or Science related field.
Strong knowledge of various chemical mixer and coating machines, slurry rheology and slurry property optimization methods.Takes initiative and is able to work with little or no supervision.
