About This Role:
The Construction worker provides skilled, safe equipment operation for repairing or installing new utilities, the maintenance or renovation of buildings, and construction projects, all of which are in support of the mission of the Division of Facilities for maintaining campus buildings for use of faculty, students, and staff.
This position operates various types of construction equipment to include various sizes of trucks, loaders, backhoes, tractors, trenchers, forklifts, trailers, jackhammers, tampers, concrete saws or other equipment and tools to remove concrete, asphalt, and excavate soil and other earthen materials.
The incumbent analyzes and establishes the most effective manner of completion of tasks to pour and finish floors, sidewalks, ramps, streets, curbs, steps, drives, tunnels, retaining walls, footings, piers, door and window jams, and other concrete structures, using hand and power tools of the trade.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Requires a high school diploma. Various training and/or certification may be required. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by a hiring manager. This position is covered by the Kansas Association of Public Employees (KAPE) agreement.
Three years’ experience operating construction equipment, two years’ experience in both carpentry and masonry trades.
Knowledge of safe operation of trucks and other equipment used in construction, maintenance, or agricultural work, including the operation of specialized equipment used in maintenance work.
Knowledge of and ability to provide on-site supervision and make work assignments.
High school graduate or equivalent with vocational training in the building trades or equipment operation.
Journeyman level in the knowledge of laws, regulations, occupational hazards, standard safety practices required by OSHA and KDHE, and materials related to masonry and concrete trades.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
Have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Work involves considerable physical exertion to transport equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds, unassisted, on a repetitive basis, daily. Extreme temperatures, working in steam tunnels, and at heights from scaffolding or crane basket. Must be able to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and work in adverse weather for extended times DAILY: Pneumatic tools, jackhammers, tampers, saws, compactors, trucks, tractors, backhoes, drills hammer drills, computers, loaders, crane, power trowel trenchers, snowplows, I-pad.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:
$ 30,760.00 to $ 46,120.00 ($14.79 to $22.17)
