As an Engineer I, R&D part of the Inside Plant Fiber team, you’ll provide overall technical leadership for assigned product development or manufacturing process development projects and product/process enhancement projects. Create innovative and cost-effective product designs and/or processes that meet customer applications and specifications.
Duties & Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this position will be to support new product introduction. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
Under guidance of a mentor, provide process development leadership for assigned product development projects and product enhancement projects.
Create innovative, cost effective and manufacturable product designs or processes. Ensure that designs and processes meet customer needs and specifications as defined in product functional requirements documents and business plans.
Coordinate process verification testing prior to release.
Leverage computer-aided engineering tools to optimize processes and minimize development time.
Utilize statistical tools to demonstrate product and process capabilities
Ensure that committed development project schedules are met.
Estimate required development tasks, time schedules and resources associated with each project.
Coordinate required inputs, outputs, and deliverables for each phase of the Product Development Process.
Help create and maintain a productive work environment.
Ensure that product design and manufacturing documentation is accurate and complete.
Create and maintain organized records of product development activity as required by applicable operating procedures and standards.
Accurately complete and submit invention disclosures and patent applications when appropriate.
Participate in Product and Process Requirements generation.
Provide technical support to internal and external customers and suppliers regarding product definition, design, implementation, manufacture, test, installation, and operation.
Improve personal competencies.
Maintain an understanding of the functions and applications of applicable products. Stay informed about products offered by competitors and suppliers.
Maintain an awareness of state-of-the-art design and manufacturing technologies and their potential for use at CommScope.
Maintain proficiency on CommScope's computer-aided design systems.
Attend and contribute to industry professional meetings.
Visit with customers as applicable.
Skills & Qualifications Required
BSME or equivalent degree or completed degree expected by June 2020
Creative, analytical technical problem-solver preferred.
Strong CAD experience, with ProE or SolidWorks experience preferred
Ability to effectively work within a team environment.
Solid communication skills including oral and writing skills.
Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, i.e., Injection Molding, Die Casting, CNC, Extrusion and Sheet Metal.
Basic understanding of tolerance analysis, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), design for manufacturing, assembly and test (DFx).
Strongly Desired Skills & Qualifications
Experience with business management software systems such as SAP
Experience with design or manufacturing of products incorporating fiber optic components and cable management.
Experience with design/test of fiber connectors and cable assemblies used in Enterprise and Carrier markets per International and Domestic standards (TIA/EIA-568, ISO/IEC-11801, Telcordia NEBS, GR-326, etc).
