Position Title: Engineer II, Mechanical Systems

Position Summary: This position is responsible for solving technical problems within field of expertise, develop applicable documentation, and supervise all assigned resources to support the assigned projects at our vast, 63-acre facility. Significant heavy manufacturing takes place both in several fab shops, as well as on the waterfront. The successful candidate will support the 1,000+ working men and women on our waterfront by assisting the Engineering Managers and Project Engineers in determining the technical requirements of the project; defining resource requirements to achieve schedule and budget commitments; and solving technical issues as they arise.
Work independently in solving technical issues.
Develop Shipboard mechanical systems and perform necessary calculations for system development.
Use of Shipbuilding software in the development of production documentation.
Use of 3d Shipbuilding software in the development of mechanical systems.
Plan, estimate, schedule and monitor assigned work and the work of assigned resources.
Track and report progress to budget and schedule commitments.
Facilitate communications of issues and solutions throughout FBS.
Prepare, check and issue professional quality deliverables.
Interpret contract requirements.
Develop contract change documents to support the project needs.
Supervise assigned resources, track and control subcontractor activities.
Participate in and / or lead product improvement projects.
Participate in meetings with the Marine Engineering Manager's staff to obtain status of FBS goals and objectives.
Set up and attend meetings to participate in resolution of issues as related to the project assigned.
Proper delegation of tasks to supporting engineers, designers and drafters.
Develop Engineering Department work pack creation.
Assist in the communication of Project Goals with all organizations from which Engineering needs support as well as those who are customers.
Develop and present project status.
Assist with bids and proposals.
Analyze functional documents for compliance to requirements.
Create bid bill of material take-offs for use in material estimates.
Ability and willingness to engage in highly energetic pursuits on the waterfront.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 2 to 8 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding's policies, and procedures. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Willingness to be a mentor, and demonstrate leadership skills that align with the mission, vision, and values of Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding.

4 Year Degree in field of competence; or 13 years of equivalent experience
4 years of experience of increasing responsibility in the engineering field of competence
Ability to transform customer specifications into Functional Documentation required to cost effectively design the perspective vessel
Knowledge of standard shipbuilding rules and regulations, as well as the associated regulatory agencies and the review & approval process
Current computer skills relevant to the field of competence to include Microsoft Office word and excel
Ability to work within schedule and budget restraints
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Proficient in use of Autocad 2d.
Supervisory experience desired
Knowledge of Aveva Marine E3D
Six Sigma or LEAN training desired
