The CAD Engineer II is responsible for designing and developing commercial vehicle steering products utilizing CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) software. Steering products to include steering gears, columns, pumps and electrical mechanical components integrated into the steering system. In addition, this Engineer will be responsible for creating 3D models and drawings to integrate steering products into new customer applications along with updating existing steering products as needed. This Engineer will be part of ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Technology Division, based in Lafayette, Indiana.
Coordinate and manage Commercial Vehicle Steering Product Line 2D and 3D CAD documents, leading CAD concept development for new customer applications and analyzing change requests for impact on current product designs.
Coordinate handover packages for offshore contract companies to complete overflow work and mass changes.
Work with Purchasing, Manufacturing and Product Engineering to develop and refine cost reduction ideas to improve product line profitability.
Perform dimensional analysis of components and assemblies to ensure products will assemble and perform properly at all manufacturing limits.
Design components and assemblies to meet structural and functional requirements outlined by customer specifications.
Specify Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances on product drawings.
Perform troubleshooting activities to assist Quality, Manufacturing and Suppliers to resolve product issues.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
Minimum of 3 years of experience in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to travel, domestic and international (less than 5%)
Experience in GD&T and Windchill PLM System is highly desired
Experience in Pro-E Creo is highly desired
Exposure to SolidWorks, CATIA V5 and NX is a plus
