Engineer - Wafer Process Development - Entry Level
Seagate Technology
Bloomington, MN
About our group

Our team’s mission is to develop new processes for state of the art recording technology. Specifically, the design and development of novel recording head process technology, utilizing many of the same techniques and methodologies employed in nanoscale semiconductor manufacturing.

About the role:
This is an opening for a wafer process integration engineer in the HAMR Productization team. This engineer will lead projects aimed at optimizing the relationships between the key unit process areas in the wafer area (Vacuum, Lithography, CMP, etc.) and downstream performance (magnetic, optical, etc.) to help productize the HAMR recording technology. The following responsibilities are included:

Initiate and complete transducer formation projects; these projects require interaction with design teams, integration teams, unit process development teams, the mechanical team and other groups.
Provide leadership for the development, planning, and analysis of new structures and processes.
Coordinate wafer mask CAD activity across multiple engineering groups to deploy design solutions.
Provide analysis and identify causes for process issues. Lead failure analysis projects to determine root cause of process deviations.
Interpretation and analysis of electrical, optical, and magnetic data will be required.
An understanding of statistics, optics, and magnetics would be beneficial.

About you:
MS or PhD with 0- 2 years of experience in thin film processing are preferred, though no previous experience in recording technology is required.
Preference will be given to those with Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Optical Engineering backgrounds with relevant work / intern experience, especially with a background in thin film processing.
Leadership and communication skills are essential.
The role will require the successful candidate to develop a broad understanding of many unit process areas.
The ability to learn quickly and adapt to change is critical to this candidate’s success.
Communicating results and issues effectively across our team will be particularly important.
A successful engineer must be able to work independently and in group environment to generate results.
A strong sense of urgency is required to meet our time to learning goals.
