The fleet or port engineer is a marine project engineer who oversees repairs and equipment on assigned vessels throughout the year. The role requires travel to shipyard locations to oversee the planning execution, vendors, supply and ensure on-time completion of the project. Heavy travel during maintenance periods, and light travel throughout the rest of the year.
Effectively manage projects and repairs delivering results on time and within budget.
Develop and maintain knowledge of current and future technical developments.
Identify deficiencies and develop alternative processes and solutions as directed.
Maintain communication with chief engineers and follow up on issues, communicate findings and action items, and ensure completion of the solution, escalating issues appropriately when necessary.
Rotate weekend duty responsibilities with peers.
Must possess a valid driver's license, TWIC, and Passport.
Must not have any convictions that would prohibit travel to Canada.
Supervisory skills to lead and direct personnel in a positive and professional manner.
Project management experience
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Project Management software, Sinex, Outlook, and web browsers.
Must live in or near Muskegon, MI or be willing to relocate.
Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems, hydraulic systems, cargo heating and pumping systems, steering and pneumatic systems, PLC and frequency drive systems, material conveying systems and other systems required to maintain proper vessel operations.
Experience in Fleet Engineering, including a successful track record of shore side management.
Possess a current USCG engineers license, DDE Unlimited HP or higher or minimum five years in a related position.
Work is in an office environment
Work outside in all types of weather
Work safely around heavy machinery
Travel on short notice to attend to fleet emergencies as needed
