Purpose and Essential Duties
The Controls Analyst is responsible for the setup of building automation control systems including creating custom programming, graphics, and trends. A Controls Analyst will frequently interact with clients, contractors, and engineers to fulfill the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
The Controls Analyst’s essential duties and responsibilities may include the following:

  • Retro-Commissioning
  • Assess existing building automation systems to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop a basic sequence of operations to improve the energy efficiency of building HVAC equipment.
  • Create Room Ventilation Schedules based on applicable code requirements.
  • Program and implement a new sequence of operations.
  • Design and Pre-Construction
  • Conduct field surveys to identify existing equipment types and building automation system capabilities.
  • Produce design documents including drawings, programming instructions, and specifications for design projects.
  • Construction
  • Complete start-up of control systems including setting up trends, graphics, and programming.
  • Program basic sequence of operations for new equipment.
  • Assist with the commissioning process as required.
  • Uphold Bernhard’s owner advocacy philosophy, mission, and core values.
  • Perform the assigned duties with minimal supervision, while working in a team problem-solving environment.
  • Assist with the development of technical reports or related documents.
  • Other duties as assigned or required

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Registered Engineering Intern (EI) licensure.
  • Programming experience in VBA or Python.
  • Building Automation System programming experience. Preferred systems include Siemens, JCI, Honeywell, Trane, Struxureware, and Tridium.
  • Experience with HVAC design, commissioning, or retro-commissioning.
