This position will report to the Technical Services Manager

What you will do:
Research, develop, design, apply and test of a wide range of machinery and systems, both as standard products and with custom features, according to productivity and innovation initiatives
Implement and execute project plans through design, installation, testing and implementation
Direct, organize and manage all resources in support of engineering projects
Oversee and supervise the projects and activities with a focus on performance, budget, safety, and compliance
Provide technical leadership to research and/or develop systems, products, or processes for a variety of assigned projects; including a wide variety of product, quality, statistical and environmentally oriented subjects
Work independently, schedule and supervise technicians used for internal data acquisition, and provide oversight and guidance to consultants used to enhance effort on the various projects
Apply scientific and engineering principles for research programs involving product development, processing, manufacturing technology, quality control, and packaging
Manage projects and maintain constant communication with cross functional groups to drive projects from concept through commercialization
Maintain documentation to ensure the consistent manufacture of new products; including batch records, production instructions, validation and stability protocols
Work with Quality Assurance to ensure all product documentation is written, stored, and approved for commercial manufacture; includes material specifications, material CoA's, product specifications, cleaning requirements, method validations, etc
Develop formulations and processes to support the development of new and novel products and/or optimization of existing product
Coordination and execution of bench-top, pilot, manufacturing scale-up and verification batches with speed and robustness
Navigate through complex formulation & technical challenges. Able to trouble-shoot and provide workable solutions to highly complex formulations
Prepare all relevant technical documents such as raw material and bulk specifications, SOP's, manufacturing batch records, technology transfer documents and any other relevant documents in the development and commercialization of the products
Conduct research to develop new and improved manufacturing processes
Develop safety procedures for those working with dangerous chemicals
Develop processes for separating components of liquids and gases, or for generating electrical currents, by using controlled chemical processes
Design and plans the layout of equipment
Conduct tests and monitor the performance of processes throughout production
Troubleshoot problems with manufacturing processes
Support plant processes and is available as Technical Specialist for plant processes
Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations
Estimate production costs for management
Assist in maintaining plant Sample Manager Program

What you will bring:
This position requires a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in the Chemistry/Food Science field of study
Competence in interpreting and understanding scientific and technical literature and reporting findings in application oriented reports and presentations
Preferred educational level includes a Bachelor’s level Engineering background, with principal emphasis toward chemistry or processing
Six to eight years experience in industrial or development-related work is desirable for process alternatives evaluation
Must demonstrate a strong depth of research knowledge and skills with the ability to statistically analyze data
Effective verbal and written communication skills as well as well-developed organizational abilities
Strong project, problem-solving and time management skills
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required
Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in product/process development, processing laboratory techniques and regulatory requirements and a firm foundation in chemistry, mathematics, pharmaceutical and/or food science
Solid analytical skills using tools such as statistics, downtime tracking, mechanical history, project planning, etc. when identifying opportunity areas
Proven ability to use innovative approaches to solve complex problems
Results oriented with proven track record of accomplishments
Proficient in AutoCad, PowerPoint, MS Project, Excel and Word
Has an understanding of current and new technologies for manufacturing, including controls and automation
Ability to analyze data and information, and to make effective and timely decisions
Ability to work with others to identify opportunities
Ability to work under pressure and to react to situations with a strong sense of urgency
Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment
Solid problem-solving, project management, multi-tasking and prioritization skills
Detail oriented, organized, reliable and resourceful
