We’re looking for an exceptional candidate to join our growing company. The Manufacturing / Fabrication Engineer will analyze, recommend and implement productivity and quality improvement methods within fabrication, welding, steel working, component assembly and finishing processes, equipment and tools. Will specify and develop assembly processes, product change recommendations and test procedures for standard and custom products while meeting the business unit’s cost requirements, quality standards and targeted profits, throughput/operating expense improvements and customer on-time delivery.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide technical guidance for the fabrication of standard and custom products and serve as the liaison for fabrication, assembly and test operations with the hand-off of projects from the Sales Engineers and Project teams.
Design production layouts, tooling fixtures and gauges. Develop fabrication cycle times and have responsibility for the development and maintenance of the ERP Routings. Recommend improvements in worker efficiency thereby removing non-value added processes and reducing waste.
Support quality inspections and determine causes of reject parts and their disposition.
Provide comprehensive supporting data that incorporates best practices for design for manufacture. Facilitate and lead the design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) meetings prior to release to fabrication.
Create and process documentation for lean operations and manufacturing methodologies along with maintaining time standards.
Develop and coordinate capital projects as required and participate in project teams to ensure that new products meet specification requirements, quality and reliability.
Participate in continuous improvement efforts for products, systems and methods, including responding to customer problems, when required; train/mentor production employees on product processes.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 8 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
Requires strong leadership, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
Must demonstrate good judgment to be able to plan and accomplish goals.
Knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD and Mastercam a plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
A “Lean principles” practitioner is a huge plus.
A self-motivated, team player and leader are key attributes required for the success in this job.
Candidates for this position should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 8 to 10 years’ experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3D modeling experience (Inventor or Solidworks preferred) as well as knowledge of welding, pipefitting, and machining. Experience with CNC equipment, including welding, vertical and horizontal lathes, and plate cutting is a plus. Familiarity with ASME, DoE, and DoD (MIL-Specs) codes and standards is preferred. Proven experience in managing capital projects up to 1M is mandatory. A track record of stable consistent professional employment required. As expected, a solid background and experience in metals fabrication techniques and a base understanding of machining is required.
The candidate must be high energy and employ a true “sense of urgency” in accomplishing assignments. He or she will be part of a fast paced team, working in a large scale high tech “fabrication shop” environment. He / she must truly enjoy being present on the shop floor and working with our “front line operators” in a challenging manufacturing environment with high volumes of low-production runs. Getting ones “hands dirty” for this employee is no big deal.
This engineer should be capable of crossing back and forth easily as the liaison between the “front line team” and his/her colleagues on the sales, operations, and product and quality team. We seek a brilliant strategic thinker who can understand the big picture, and can then filter the overall strategy into tactical projects and plans leading to executing on the key deliverables.
