As an Advanced Propulsion Design Engineer , you will be a key member of the mechanical design group for future heavy duty propulsion systems beyond today’s conventional powertrains.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
This role incorporates all the functions required for product design responsibility for hardware components in cross sections dealing with electric propulsion and necessary gearing to meet the needs of future vehicles in performance, efficiency, size, and cost.
Create, Initiate, verify, and approve requests for component drawings including features such as limit stack, design calculations, and analytical tool results.
Work with the Advanced Analysis group for finite element analysis, system and component efficiency, weight and space claim savings, sound suppression, design optimization, etc. by providing product loading conditions, product operating conditions, and interpretation of analysis tool output.
Determine DVP&R to validate the product appropriate to the design hardware vintage and execute to completion by initiating test requests, supporting data review, interpretation and thorough review of test reports.
Support Test Engineering by providing appropriate pre-test and post-test measurement list, required parameters for data collection, analyzing data, and assessing hardware at end of test to determine pass, fail, or next steps.
Support DFMEA activity and assessment to best practices to guide product design.
Work with Suppliers, Purchasing, and Supplier Quality Engineers to support cost reductions, sourcing, and design changes to optimize system total cost of ownership in price, quality, and reliability.
Participate in Incident Review Team by applying problem solving methodologies in test and field data to determine root cause failures and corrective actions.
Continuous learning and growth of various product design subsystems including structures, hydraulics, shift elements, gears, shafts, motors, inverters, batteries, and fuel cells.
Support Allison Transmission in continued advancement in innovation, research, and development for future propulsion systems.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
Master's in Engineering
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Practical knowledge on rotational and reciprocating mechanical platforms
- Ability to read drawings, blueprints & proficient with 3D solid modeling
- Limit stacking, GD&T knowledge & design experience
- Six-Sigma certification or equivalent problem solving knowledge
- CAD experience / Unigraphics is a plus
- 3+ years of engineering experience in a related field
- 3-5 years of product design and development experience. Focus on transmission design is a plus
