With the City of Kalamazoo, the Network Engineer will be responsible for day to day operations while supporting multiple projects, responding to service calls, incident management, and providing technical support to end users. This individual will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the City’s WAN, LAN, and VoIP environments.
Examples of Duties
Manage and maintain network and security equipment. This includes firewalls, routers, switches, VPNs, security appliances, VoIP equipment, and other network devices and equipment.
Research security, hardware, and configuration standards and make recommendations for best practices to keep hardware and software up to date.
Create, update, and maintain server and application documentation and network diagrams.
Provides technical support for the VoIP, LAN, and WAN environments and systems.
Provides proven methodologies for troubleshooting network environments and systems.
Designs, implements, tests, and executes assigned technical projects by determining methods for implementation, projected completion times, and necessary tools, software, and devices
Provides project management and leadership for network projects.
Provide quality and regular documentation updates for systems, change management and incident response.
Perform complex troubleshooting and resolution for systems, including being an escalation point for other systems.
Document, track and troubleshoot tickets as needed to evaluate and assess technical risks, adherence to standards, and progress according to SLA’s.
Provide training, mentorship, and support professional development for fellow team members.
Provide top tier customer service for all users.
Perform other IT related duties as assigned.
Minimum 3 years of network experience.
Ability to research, design, and implement new technologies and processes
Possesses strong problem-solving skills
Ability to produce quality work under pressure, while keeping a professional attitude
Strong customer service skills
Knowledge of network best practices, industry standards, and trends.
Acceptable Training and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology or related work experience
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Project planning and project management training.
