Building Design/Structural Specialist for Residential Remodeling – No license required
Neil Kelly Company is looking for a detail-oriented Structural Specialist to join our team in Bend.
With over 70 years of success in residential design-build remodeling, throughout Oregon and Washington, our projects include whole house remodels, additions, kitchens, baths and residential retrofits related to increase energy efficiency, and more.
Compensation and benefits:
Depending upon education and experience
Cell phone reimbursement - $55 month

Previous work in single-family residential required, remodeling experience a strong plus
Chief Architect software experience a strong plus / AutoCAD required
SketchUp skills a plus
Strong structural drafting skills (particularly light-frame construction)
Knowledge of the construction process
Knowledge of building codes
Successful candidates with have strong Chief Architect (preferred) or AutoCAD skills, experience in structural drafting (particularly light-frame construction), knowledge of the construction process, and knowledge of building codes. This role is also involved in materials research and taking job site measurements. Neil Kelly Building Design Specialists must have the ability to draft with the builder’s perspective in mind.
Essential Functions of the Job
Drafting layouts, elevations, and construction details for primarily residential projects.
Conducting on-site measuring and site inspections of existing properties and creating “as-built” plans.
Assisting in applying for building permits.
Work with project team, Architect, and/or Engineer as necessary to create permit ready plans that meet current building code and zoning code requirements.
Work with the Design Consultant to assemble the complete job package including writing specifications, trade contractor bid procurement, project estimating and preparing contracts and necessary paperwork.
Serve as a resource for recommending and calculating structural elements.
Serve as a resource of information on code issues for other Neil Kelly employees.
Working with the Project Manager and trade contractors on structural issues and code questions, including site visits, as needed.
What does it take to be a Neil Kelly Structural Specialist?
Degree in architecture, interior design, interior architecture, housing design, or related.
High-level Chief Architect (preferred) or AutoCAD expertise.
Experience with SketchUp a plus.
In-depth knowledge of building codes. *This role does NOT require a license.
Experience in residential kitchen and bath design, including cabinetry.
Understanding of construction process.
Strong portfolio of demonstrated work.
Excellent time-management and project prioritization skills.
Customer service and client interaction skills.
Ability to work as a member of a team and independently.
Able to problem solve.
Excellent communication skills.
Able to pass a drug screening and abide by drug free workplace standards.
Able to pass a criminal background and security check.
Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet tight deadlines.
