Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) is currently looking for an Optics - Laser Technician to join our team at Starfire Optical Range in Kirtland AFB, NM supporting the Air Force Research Lab in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities using ground based telescopes. Starfire Optical Range is a world class research facility with recognized achievements in adaptive optics, enabled by the quality, enthusiasm, and dedication of our entire team. Our team consists of engineers and technicians in all disciplines required to plan, design, integrate, and test complex optical, electronic, laser systems to achieve research objectives.
This position will be responsible for assisting engineers in optical alignment, laser maintenance and operations, electronic system troubleshooting and integration, mechanical systems integration, ops and maintenance, and helping with wherever the research road leads. The position will serve as a crew member for tests, primarily in optics and lasers, but may learn other positions such as telescope operator, camera operator, or atmospheric operator. This position requires variable shift work. This position maintains optics and laser labs to Air Force standards for Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL), HAZMAT, ESD, property, and equipment maintenance. Looking for someone experienced with optical alignment techniques, and comfortable working with pulsed and CW lasers.
Plans, conducts and documents complex tests on products, systems, components, materials, and manufacturing processes and technologies.
Coordinates test requirements, determines test methods and capabilities.
Conducts system test preparations by guiding system integration, fabrication, modification, setup, checkout and teardown.
Conducts complex tests, analyzes data and documents results; participates in test readiness reviews.
Identifies and resolves test anomalies.
Troubleshoots and resolves complex laboratory and test-related problems.
Coordinates test laboratory activities, maintenance and repairs, and personnel training.
Assists government agencies, safety and hazardous materials teams in the event of emergencies. Coaches and trains others.
This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active) with the ability to obtain a final U.S. Top Secret/SCI Clearance Post-Start.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):
5 or more years of experience with optics, lasers, electronic, mechanical or instrumentation.
5 or more years of experience working with High Energy Lasers
5 or more years of experience working with optics, including lasers (CW, Pulse), optical alignment, opto-mechanical, and optical metrology
Willing to work variable shifts; including days, evenings, nights and weekends
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
U.S. Top Secret/SCI Clearance
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 6 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+4 years' related work experience, 8 years' related work experience, etc.).
