The purpose of this position is to provide management of and direction to the Traffic Control section of the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. This is accomplished by coordinating traffic control activities, preparing conceptual drawings and designs for signalized intersections as well as traffic flow and vehicle progression on arterials utilizing the city's signal coordination software, and supervising personnel and activities within the Traffic Control section. Other activities include conducting or directing and managing field investigations and performing traffic engineering data collection and analysis; managing projects; investigating and analyzing traffic patterns; responding to requests for service by citizens, neighborhood associations, and city departments regarding traffic regulations, hazards, accidents, signage, pavement markings, signals, pedestrian crossings and other traffic control issues; preparing work orders; and supervising the design, installation, and maintenance of all traffic control devices including traffic signals, signage and pavement striping.
