Summary
About the Position: As a Second Assistant Engineer, Towboat assigned to the Motor Vessel Benyaurd, Operations Division, River Operations Branch, the incumbent will serve as Second Assistant to the Chief Engineer on a 4500 H.P. twin-screw diesel-powered towboat.

Responsibilities
Stands a shift watch and supervises and participates in the work of one or two subordinates assigned to the shift employed as marine-oilers and/or strikers.
Maintains continuous operating efficiency to prevent damage to machinery.
Makes regular and periodic inspections by visual and auditory means of all machinery to determine the operating condition and the need for maintenance and repairs.
Travel Required
50% or less - Business travel required up to 50% of the time.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires you to submit to and pass a Pre-Employment Physical Examination.
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
This position requires shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays and in other situations.
This position requires possession of a valid USCG Assistant Engineer's License commensurate with horsepower (2000 or 5000H.P) and/or tonnage (less than 1600 GRT upon Oceans, Near Coastal and Great Lakes), class, and size of vessel.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) ~ without more than normal supervision which includes the ability to perform the full range of tasks associated with the engine room machinery and equipment including the main propelling engines, pumping engines, auxillary pumps, machinery on the vessel and attendant plant and electric/electronic systems; tasks associated with checking oil levels, monitoring generators, gearboxes, generator temperatures, and fuel levels - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed inside and outside, subjecting employee to varying climatic conditions, abnormal noises, temperature, danger of burns, irritation from grease and oils, bruises, strains, dangers involved in attending moving machinery, possible drowning from falling overboard, electrical shock, falls on slippery decks or steep stairways, crankcase explosion.
PHYSICAL EFFORT Incumbent performs work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and where the parts, equipment, or systems are in hard-to-reach places. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in a tiring and uncomfortable position. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds
