Job Summary: Oversee associates and equipment for the inedible egg drying process. This will include operating the clarifier, dryer, concentration/separation, and packaging as well as other required equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Responsible for product quality and the completion of production records as required.
Reports to: Plant Manager
Direct Reports: Production Team Coordinator, Production Operators
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Day-to-Day Production Management (75% of the time):
Follow all Safety and Bio-Security Procedures.
Ensure that all care is provided with respect to customer, supplier, and co-workers’ rights.
Ensure a safe and clean work environment. Strictly follows all Safety Procedures and uses all required personal protective equipment.
Follow all OSHA safety regulations and procedures.
Lead GMP compliance, prevention of foreign material contamination, and master sanitation programs
Collectively plans and coordinates work to meet schedules in completing and performing assigned tasks and daily production goals.
Review daily manufacturing operation with respect to overall efficiency, product requirement, and current established production schedule.
Operate: clarifier, dryer, concentration/separation and packaging equipment.
Ensures equipment is operating correctly to produce high quality product.
Completes all tasks in sanitation food grade manner.
Operates CIP and chemical sanitation program with cost efficiency.
Verifies and reviews completion of operational reports, log tracking, and other required paperwork.
Schedules inbound and outbound tankers-loading/unloading, insures completion of daily equipment checks and maintains data logs.
Coordinates preventative and routine maintenance with Maintenance Manager.
Maintains cleanliness of production area.
Conduct inventory audits and ensure inventory levels of supplies and direct the activities of the supply room and supply purchasing
Assist in Hiring and Recruiting production personnel
Perform other tasks as assigned.
People, Process, and Product Management (25% of the time):
Interviews, hires, leads and supervises production and sanitation team members
Trains, coaches and leads associates to achieve performance, quality, cost and service goals. Ensure their ability to operate manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently
Records and delivers coaching disciplinary action to team members as necessary
Responsible for continuous evaluation of production processes in order to recommend and implement process improvement. Use appropriate reporting to evaluate results for expected improvements
Work closely with associates in an effort to improve plant key performance indicators and manufacturing/operational metrics
Develop, track, record and lead the application of continuous improvement principles and practices including Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.
Maintains the quality of production by holding product to standards while taking the necessary action to correct and improve
Cultivate a positive and innovative work environment while ensuring adherence to policies, procedures and practices
Ensures all associates are following GMP policies
Assist the activities of the plant maintenance team, while working with the Project Engineer to ensure coordination of proper priorities.
Develop and implement plans to improve substandard performance on equipment.
Determine the long-range needs of the department and develop plans that implement solutions.
Maintains an understanding of production equipment as to ensure current knowledge of equipment performance for determining facilities and production operations are running at optimal levels.
Ensure a safe workplace without risk to health.
Ensures prevention and precautions against, or adequate control of, exposure to hazardous substance, and danger from flammable, explosive, electrical, noise, radiation and manual handling risks
Review the PM schedules to assure that repairs and PM’s are done effectively.
Other (substantially <1% of the time)
Supports Quality Assurance, R&D, and Maintenance teams’ efforts.
Attends training and seminars as necessary to stay up to date on regulatory requirements and emerging trends in the production, sanitation, food safety, and continuoius improvement disciplines.
Leadership and Support: Communicate with other plant leaders and support their initiatives. Facilitate production ownership through integration training, coaching, mentoring and supervision
Assist in the development of a 3-5-year capital plan
Advisor: Assist facility leadership with the development of short and long-term preventative maintenance objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that prioritize areas that need attention. Analyze severity and prioritize equipment issues to minimize plant down times as well as maximize plant productivity.
Control costs to achieve facility budget goals
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Associate degree required (B.A. or B.S. preferred).
Previous experience in manufacturing, supply chain, maintenance, environmental and safety disciplines. Food Production experience is a plus.
3+ years of leadership and/or production supervision experience with knowledge of HACCP, FSMA, and GMP
Ability to manage many projects with shifting priorities.
Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint a must. Experience with MS Access and drawing software a plus.
Self-starter, exhibiting independent thinking skills with strong initiative.
Coordination with all levels within the company's hierarchy.
Proven record of measuring metrics/KPIs and other programs or initiative
Exerts leadership ability and has previous supervisory experience with demonstrated success of attaining results through others.
Is successful in creating, promoting and maintaining programs and systems.
Able to explain training material to operating staff. Excellent communication skills
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Attention to detail.
Mathematical Skills: General Arithmetic/Basic algebra/Percentages/Fractions.
