Position is for a resident engineer to provide an onsite product engineering presence in the San Antonio manufacturing plant. Interface as technical liaison between development team in Plymouth & San Antonio manufacturing team. Responsible for leading specific engineering tasks or resolving technical issues as assigned (~50% of assignment) as well as provide onsite product change coordinator activities (~50% of assignment)

Basic Responsibilities

Provide on-site support to quickly identify and resolve product design issues at the manufacturing plant and/or engage appropriate members of engineering team or SDT to assist
Participate in SDT meetings, product design reviews, as well as support plant in meetings with customer and suppliers to own resolution of assigned product design issues
Evaluate impact of process or manufacturing changes on design or product performance and provide feedback to manufacturing team
Evaluate proposed engineering changes via execution of production trials and provide feedback to SDT
Provide input on PFMEA and support in DFAM issue resolution
Evaluate potential PPSC concerns and leverage appropriate engineering channels for risk assessment and documentation
Apply problem solving tools KT (Kepner-Tregoe), BEP, and 8D to assist in root causing issues with direct access to drawings and design information to speed problem solving process
Support cost reduction initiatives as assigned
Provide on-site support to quickly identify and resolve product design issues at the manufacturing plant and/or engage appropriate members of engineering team or SDT to assist
Participate in SDT meetings, product design reviews, as well as support plant in meetings with Spring Hill customer and suppliers to own resolution of assigned product design issues
Product Change Coordinator Responsibilities

Manage engineering design changes via management of engineering change tracker to ensure all parts / drawings released, aligned with latest rev.level in the EBOM and MBOM, and interface directly with plant team to track and confirm change implementation into production
Support change control meetings and DA / TWO meetings for all rows
Support ETR & PTR activities at plant for all product changes
Provide Riverside materials, quality, and production teams with proactive communication of:
timing for engineering change break-points
part number change tracking / bump chart assistance (Customer and Adient part numbers)
confirmation of “correctness” of new part / revision received in
readiness for implementation (i.e. required updates to production process, equipment, programming, etc.)
confirmation of old-level stock disposition
action plan to address issues in cases where changes were not seamlessly implemented (root cause, issue resolution, and lessons learned)
Deliver product engineering team with BEP / A3 information related to any product-related issues identified (i.e. problem statement with pictures / video, extent (Is / Is Not), initial confirmation of parts-to-print, initial root cause, initial ICA and PCA recommendations, etc.)
Provide support at “local” plants as needed for root cause work or change implementation confirmation
Support the team with creation and maintenance of an issues list to be reviewed on a recurring basis (weekly at a minimum); and a status report to be published monthly. Any and all potential craftsmanship/appearance concerns identified by Plant Operators/Quality/Costumer. (Examples: gaps, wrinkles, winking, etc.)
Qualifications

  • Able to effectively communicate and interface between the plant, customer, suppliers, and the SDT
  • Possess a desire to learn manufacturing process, quality systems, and product interactions for later application into design
  • Strong root cause capability with 8D/A3 background including identification of potential safety concerns
  • Knowledge of Adient product development process, project experience, and change management systems to assist/coordinate with plant team
Knowledge of complete seat system design integration including all interfacing groups (trim, foam, structures, plastics, etc.)
Experience interfacing directly with JIT plant manufacturing and quality teams or previous launch experience
Willingness to travel to customer facility (FFX/Ford) and local suppliers
Mechanical aptitude for hands-on problem-solving using tools such as KT, A3, FTA, 8D, etc
Ability to use Adient-specific software (eg, PLM, TC11, etc.)
Understanding of basic GD&T and ability to read drawings and lead design review discussions
Ability to conduct statistical analysis of data (performance/supplier dimensional data) and interpret data to understand trends
Experience with Catia V5 design, drawings and layout creation
Education Required

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Experience Required

5+ years in automotive seat engineering

Previous experience working with and/or supporting seating product launches at manufacturing plant

Duration
