We currently have an opportunity for a Professional Engineer, and EIT in our Engineering department. In this role you will have the opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team that is reshaping how internet and phone companies design and deploy fiber optic networks throughout cities. Our technology-centric approach to telecommunications outside plant design is built upon the use of tablets and our proprietary apps/software to collect measurements and GPS locations of the poles.
As part of our design team, you would use these inputs to create designs according to the customer’s guidelines. Experience is telecommunications is not necessary, but strong problem solving skills and an eagerness to learn are. Some of the responsibilities include:
Preparing civil and cable designs and drawings for GPON/FTTP, copper and RF designs;
Visiting job sites before, during, and after design;
Understanding and correctly appling industry specifications and standards;
Managing projects from inception to completion;
Project tracking/management, including budgets;
Working with the software teams to assist with software development relevant to the Engineering function;
Maintaining company standards while dealing with clients;
Designing, provision, document, and complete OPE design;
Collaborating with clients to ensure deliverables are met and expectations are exceeded;
Upholding and promoting adherence to Training, Operating and Health and Safety Procedures;
Mentoring and coaching new professionals and teammates;
Some travel maybe required; and,
Other duties as requested by manager.
Our ideal candidate:
Holds a BASc or BEng degree;
Is proficient in 2D AutoCAD with knowledge of SpatialNet add-in being an asset;
Has experience or an understanding of telecommunications infrastructure, power distribution infrastructure or underground utilities;
Demonstrates a strong customer service ethos and can build effective, lasting relationships;
Can effectively and efficiently navigate through Microsoft Office and G Suite applications;
Shows a willingness and desire to collaborate, share knowledge and solve unique problems;
Has a proven record of hands on delivery;
Is experienced in managing a small team of people, helping to grow skills and become more efficient;
Has a keen interest in building a growing business in an entrepreneurial environment with exposure to other operating areas of the business ie. HR, Finance;
Is registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Engineer In Training with EGBC or other recognized affiliation.
