Mechanical Engineer (R&D) – Entry Level
SeaLandAire provides engineering services for data collection applications in difficult environments. We design, develop, and build products tailored to help our customers collect information from any environment, focusing on sensor systems and small unmanned vehicles. The job is fast-paced. As an entry-level Mechanical Engineer, you will work under the direction of senior engineers to aid in planning, designing, building, and testing various mechanical aspects of our products and support equipment.
To succeed in this role, you should be comfortable working with the uncertainty that comes with R&D projects, have excellent attention to detail, utilize good time management strategies, possess an aptitude for design and analysis skills, and be able to communicate with and work well within a team.
An entry-level Mechanical Engineer is expected to do the following tasks:
Helps define and review requirements under the direction of senior engineer(s).
Researches, conceptualizes, analyzes, builds, and evaluates mechanical aspects of products, equipment, and systems to meet requirements.
Helps identify issues, conduct root cause analyses, and recommend design modifications to address performance deficiencies
Develops and evaluates prototypes of alternate designs and processing methods for comparison and validation
Conduct experiments and routine tests following established procedures, including data collection and analysis.
Helps develop test procedures for new aspects of product development or engineering projects.
Provide input to written test reports and progress reports.
Supports project teams to estimate material costs, production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions such as proposals
Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports. Assists CAD designers in developing the structural design of products

This position is not expected to have supervisory responsibilities.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Hours are somewhat flexible and some late evenings may be required.
Some travel will be expected. Travel is primarily for field testing of products and is often conducted in lakes and oceans from boats.

Experience with or interest in the following areas would be beneficial but not required:
Computer programming, particularly Python
Radio Controlled (RC) / Unmanned vehicles
Fabrication methods and processes
Since a majority of SeaLandAire's business is funded by the US Department of Defense, applicants must be a "US Person" (US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident).
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. 0-2 years’ experience in design engineering preferably in an R&D environment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear (sometimes in a noisy environment), sit, stand, walk, climb (occasionally), and do repetitive movements with hands.
