Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Senior Process Technology Engineer provides technical support at the plant and supports plant processes, systems, procedures, policies, and equipment. Supports the plant level improvement process, developing new ideas and projects, gathering and analyzing data, evaluating improvement opportunities, and implementing improvement projects supported by the business. Provides plant level capital project support, which may include fulfilling roles in the project execution work process. Activities may include:
Production support (40%)
Responsible for process chemistry, technology, and basics of process controls to provide technical support of continuous operation and process improvement.
Responsible for maintaining recipes for batch production. Assist product development in new product scale ups and lead plant trials.
Anticipate potential problems in manufacturing process and builds solutions and backup plans.
Identify and manage key process measures for plant performance data. This requires analysis of process data as well as collaborating with plant personnel for information. This is used for reporting as well as for improvement projects.
Responsible for maintaining assigned process safety information and process book information for assigned areas. Responsible for verification of certain critical layers of protection (example safety interlock testing).
Initiates changes to operating procedures and work to ensure changes are valid and up to date.
Builds team acting as contributor and challenging status quo to improve processes
Project / Problem Solving (50%)
Leads root cause analysis and other trouble shooting methodologies to resolve safety, production and quality problems. Implements Six Sigma methodologies more complex problems or projects.
Contributes new ideas and approaches to process improvement and builds consensus on project implementation
Reviews and adapts ideas from other areas of technology to solve problems and/or improve processes through to project implementation.
Leads improvement projects, collaborating with manufacturing teams, engineering personnel, and R&D representatives. These may be capital, or non-capital, and includes participating or leading various reviews such as process hazards analysis, management of change and pre-start up safety reviews.
Ensures workplace safety by conducting safety observations and reviews while adhering to safety regulations and procedures.
Understand plan process control system and assists in maintenance of DCS system
Mentors younger engineers or Developing Engineers
Leads steering team(s) and encourages others to participate while developing goals and metrics for success.
All other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have:
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering required.
9 years of experience in manufacturing plant/process engineering environment .Experience in manufacturing/process or project engineering environment necessary Six Sigma certification strongly preferred
Root Cause analysis and problem solving experience strongly preferred
PSA and LOPA training strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience in managing large and/or multiple projects
Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical issues to all varieties of audience and leaves a clear understanding of message.
DCS and batch manager experience preferred
Strong computer capabilities
Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
Motivation to work as a team player, able to work at a fast pace
Curiosity, and desire to drive to continuous Improvement
Influencing skills that promote strong relationships and build trust
Ability to successfully enlist cooperation from others and works well with others to achieve goals
