The Computational AeroSciences Branch at Langley Research Center is seeking a skilled individual to serve as a Research Aerospace Engineer; performing research and development in computational science for aerospace vehicles with applications in all speed regimes. The focus of the research is to develop and extend physics-based prediction methods for the analysis and design of complex configurations including the use of massively parallel high-performance computing architectures.
Develop, apply and validate new computational fluid dynamics (CFD) algorithms tailored to advanced and/or emerging computer hardware technology for computational aerosciences applications (CAA); (CFD, CAA, multi-physics applications, etc.) .
Develop advanced techniques and models for the prediction and control of turbulent flows, with an emphasis on the high Reynolds number flows encountered on full-scale aircraft configurations.
Support code modernization through research in high performance computing algorithms for computational aerosciences applications (CFD, CAA, multi-physics applications, etc.) on existing and evolving high performance hardware.
Serves as a technical expert and interfaces with other researchers in industry, universities, NASA, and other government agencies.
Conducts research in problem areas that are highly complex and of considerable scope. Problems are often difficult to define, require novel approaches and sophisticated research techniques.
Duties may include monitoring and evaluating research contracts and grants to accomplish collaborative research with external organizations.
Duties described above are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.

One year of professional experience in an appropriate field at least equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to GS-11 level work in the Federal service within or closely related to the aerospace technology specialty for which application is made. Specialized experience includes performing duties such as applying and validating computational fluid dynamics algorithms on high-performance computer architectures for aeroscience applications; conducting and reporting on professional research topics related to physics-based prediction methods; working with parallel programming models for high performance computers including heterogeneous architectures; or
b. Any combination of experience and graduate study; or
c. Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in an appropriate field.
To qualify for the GS-13:
Specialized experience includes performing duties such as developing, applying and validating computational fluid dynamics algorithms on high-performance computer architectures for complex aeroscience applications; planning, conducting and reporting on professional research topics related to physics-based prediction methods; and code optimization, performance profiling, parallel programming models for high performance computers including heterogeneous architectures.

Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.
