The Network Engineer is to ensure the stability, availability, and integrity of the college’s voice, data, video, and wireless network services. This includes planning, installing, configuring, maintaining, monitoring, supporting, and optimizing the college's network and internet connectivity. This individual will take the lead or assist in analyzing and resolving technology problems in a timely and accurate fashion.
In coordination with other LID staff, the Network Engineer participates in the development, implementation, and monitoring of college security policies and practices using tools and automation to ensure the college’s data is as secure and protected as possible.
This position reports to the Director of Technology Operations.

Manage the continuous operation of the college’s wide-area network (WAN), Local Area Networks (LANs), Internet connectivity, and including data, voice, video, and wireless networks and systems.
As directed and in coordination with other LID staff, develop, implement, train, and maintain policies, procedures, with regard to network operation, administration, usage, network security and disaster recovery. Implement information, data, and network security policies and procedures in compliance with LID policies, procedures, and practices.
Coordinate network projects district wide. This includes working with end-users throughout the project's lifecycle; from concept, through design, to installation. Work with a variety of vendors such as hardware/software providers, cloud vendors, and consultants as needed. Oversee project and task outcomes to ensure they are meeting predefined expectations.
Design and deploy the college LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware. Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for meeting the college’s business goals and fulfilling academic objectives. Collaborate with LID ledership and LID staff to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs of the college.
Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry. Interact and work with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to learn about new network products and services which may benefit the college.
Coordinate and communicate the change management of new and existing network equipment, hardware, software upgrades, patches, and configurations to minimize the disruption of system availability.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed using industry standard tools and network appliances. Provide LID leadership with network performance statistics and reports. Always communicate network impacting outages to other LID team members and leadership.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, routing, design, processes, and service records. Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information. Manage telecommunication databases and directories, including coordination with local emergency offices to develop and maintain E911 databases.
Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, and other network appliances. Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports. Participate in network security monitoring and issue resolution as requested.
Lead by example in the areas of customer service, professionalism, attendance, attitude and professional development. Actively promote a culture of innovation to enhance the user experience and support the academic goals of the institution.
Collaborate with members of other operational teams within LID to adopt and promote best practices, comply with policies and procedures, and to plan and communicate changes with other LID staff.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION
Associate degree in a computer-related area of study.
Two years of recent occupational experience with Cisco IOS (routers, switches, firewalls), Microsoft Servers, and Linux.
A current Cisco Associate level certification (CCNA or CCDA);
Plus one of the following current COMPTIA certifications:
Linux+, Network+, or Security +
Previous hands-on work experience in a multi-server, multi-operating-system, complex networking environment.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
Excellent communication skills

Employment is contingent upon an acceptable background/reference check and drug screening.

District responsibilities include some travel within the tri-county area.
Must have or be able to obtain all required certifications within the initial probationary period of 180 days.
Office environment and/or work-from-home (requires high-speed internet access at home).
Frequently requires flexible work hours (early mornings, late evenings, weekends) for network maintenance outside of normal work hours.
Individual will be required to use her/his assigned college cell phone during scheduled work hours.
