We are seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer, who will be responsible for working primarily with a multi-discipline group of engineers and technicians in the Water Power & Dams (WPD) Engineering Group in Portland, OR, Denver, CO, or Austin, TX.
The successful applicant will be responsible for completion and leadership of assigned projects, designs, and studies and will exhibit high technical competence in a primary production role. Assigned projects will include electrical system studies and/or protective relay settings for utility, renewable, and industrial/commercial clients. Systems to be analyzed will includes conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, and transmission and distribution systems. Technical disciplines include the following areas:
Power System Planning Studies:
Steady-state real and reactive power flow (outage contingencies, transmission adequacy studies, reactive compensation calculations)
Generation interconnect feasibility
P-V and Q-V analysis for voltage stability margins
Dynamic stability performance
Short circuit and Arc-Flash Hazard Analysis
Cable ampacity/sizing studies
System loss studies
Applicable Software: PSS/E, SKM, ASPEN OneLiner, ETAP, CYMCAP, CYME, CYMDIST, PowerWorld, CDEGS, PowerGEM TARA, Python Scripting, transient analysis software
Short circuit and symmetrical component analysis
Protection scheme and criteria development
Integration with SCADA systems
Applicable Software: AcSELerator Quickset, AcSELerator Architect, AcSELerator RTAC, GE Enervista, Wonderware
Power System Design:
Collector system design
Protection and control schematics
Transmission and distribution design drawings/schematics
Applicable Software: ArcMap
Your Capabilities and Credentials
This is a junior level consulting engineering position.
Preference is given to applicants with any of the following: specific training and/or power system courses covering topics such as protective relaying, symmetrical components, transmission line theory, power system transients, dynamic stability, and power system analysis. Professional registration is not required however strong preference is given to applicants who are registered professional engineers. Preference is given to applicants with significant knowledge and experience in more than one of the three technical disciplines/software packages listed. Competence with MS Word and Excel is required

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering. Master’s of Science in Electrical Engineering preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience as a electrical engineer in a consulting or utility setting.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
