Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA) is looking for a Senior Communication Systems Researcher . The position is in the Camas, WA office.

Senior Communication Systems Researcher
We are seeking an individual to join our communication systems research group to develop and support the patenting of air interface technologies for inclusion in future 3GPP wireless standards, including Fifth Generation "NR." You will be a part of a fast-moving team of researchers dedicated to inventing, simulating, verifying, and promoting in 3GPP novel air interface technologies, and supporting the verification of patents reading on the standards. You will work closely with our Intellectual Property Group to secure patent protection.
You will possess expert knowledge of communication theory (protocols, system theory, probability, statistics, signal processing, algorithms, etc.), deep knowledge of 3GPP NR and LTE and one or more of the following technologies: MIMO, OFDMA, FEC Coding, HARQ, Physical Layer Procedures, as well as how these are implemented in NR and LTE, You will have a track record of the creation of original ideas in academia or industry, and creation of patentable ideas as well as a successful track record of seeing these patentable ideas through patent prosecution. You will be especially familiar and experienced in the creation of claim charts.
Excellent teamwork and written and oral communication skills are essential. Creativity, responsibility, self-direction and self-motivation are hallmarks of our team and we expect the same from all who join us. Some domestic and international travel required. Must be able to work extended hours. Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods of time. Must have command of the English language adequate to communicate technical information.
Must – Skills / Knowledge:
MSEE (Ph.D. preferred) in Electrical Engineering with minimum 2 years of experience (1 with Ph.D.)
Deep knowledge of 3GPP LTE and NR standards from physical and/or radio layers.
Demonstrated ability to create intellectual property leading to patent applications
The ability to create claim charts whose claims read on 3GPP or related standards.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Desired – Skills / Knowledge:
Proven track record of successful contributions to 3GPP and online advocacy of contributions
In-depth knowledge of 3GPP standards and procedures
Good knowledge of US patent procedures, from technical perspective
