We're looking for an experienced mechanical engineer that can design, build, and test sophisticated and highly reliable electromechanical subassemblies. You will work with R & D, Instrument Systems, Quality Control, Manufacturing, and Contract Manufacturers to develop hardware and manufacturing solutions for new and on market products. The position is focused on mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly and component life-cycle design. Looking for an engineer with a solid theoretical and practical background in mechanical engineering, who can comprehend form, fit, and function replacement alternatives to yield improved product performance. Interacting with Instrument Systems to drive practical and robust designs, implementing Design for Manufacturability (DFM), design of manufacturing equipment, processes, and QC inspection methods.
Provide leadership in DFA/DFM to product development teams for manufacture of IVD instruments.
As a product development team member, you will participate in the product development process by designing, assembling and testing prototype systems, and release to manufacturing.
Own engineering responsibility for electro-mechanical subsystem after first customer shipment.
Lead design transfers that result in processes that are robust, technically feasible, and can be effectively scaled for high volume manufacturing.
Perform analysis on field returns, define problem, indentify root cause, recomment and implement solutions.
Generate material specifications and coordinate with Supply Chain to ensure that new designs incorporate raw materials that can be consistently procured at optimal cost.
Maintain Design Control and project documentation in accordance with Quidel and external regulatory requirements.
Education and Experience:
B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
4-7+ years of relevant experience in electro-mechanical system and subsystem design, NPI, and manufacturing
4+ years of experience in SolidWorks
Knowledge / Skills:
Skilled in mechanical design & Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
Ability to generate working drawings to support component fabrication
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment
Must be proactive and require minimum supervision
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks
Ability to work within cross-functional teams
Strong communication skills, written and verbal
Knowledge in project management
Skilled in problem-solving and troubleshooting
Knowledge in managing technical projects with external contractors
