The Design Engineer is a part of the Point Source Engineering Team in a fast-paced and growing global Lighting industry. The position will be responsible for working on interior lighting projects along with working on mechanical construction of exterior products. The position reports directly to the Director of Point Source and works closely with the Design/R&D Team to execute assigned Point Source projects from concept to production and existing standard product development.
Accurate and efficient Design concept development from design brief, variant data form or project specification, including prototype development.
Ability to produce detailed, professional quality drawings to specifications. 3D Part Drawings; submittal and standard product drawings.
Product Documentation, including: Bills of Material Structure; working with Engineering Administrator to develop models in Oracle ERP system; assembly documentation; installation sheets and help generate specification data sheet; work closely with all departments on the projects.
Work with Manufacturing throughout development process to facilitate smooth transfer of new products into production. Includes detailed assembly documentation and utilizing input to design for manufacturing while adhering to performance, aesthetic and cost goals.
Complete value engineering assignments to assist Company in meeting cost savings and product enhancement goals.
General knowledge of UL/CSA Listing (working with R&D lab and UL liaison), NEC is a plus
Other duties as deemed priority and appropriate by the Company and management.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design
2 - 3 years engineering experience for a manufacturer. Lighting/lighting controls knowledge a plus
Fluent in 3D design software: Autodesk Inventor 3D a plus.
Understanding of sheet metal, die cast, plastic mold and extruded part design,
Good communication skills required - effective interaction/collaboration with resources, vendors, partners, and designers locally and other global locations.
Understanding of light sources, drivers and LED lighting components; understanding of architectural construction and point source applications a plus.
Basic understanding of wiring and electrical circuits.
