This Direct-Hire position is in the Food and Drug Administration and is located in the Office of Planning, Evaluation, and Risk Management (OPERM), Division of Program Evaluation and Process Improvement (DPEPI) which is located in Silver Spring, Maryland. Some of the Division's core services include program evaluation, analytical services (data analysis and visualization, mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, etc.), and resource capacity planning capability development.
Keeps abreast of current trends in operations research analysis, capacity planning, and other forecasting analyses via professional journals and societies, the internet, and other sources, and applies these to contemporary tasks.
Develops analytical and/or mathematical models for use in preparing evaluation criteria, testing sequences, and data collection/reduction requirements.
Completes assignments involving coordination and execution of diverse research studies within the FDA, and the ability to lead the execution and implementation of design studies.
Serves as a representative of the organization in liaison with scientists, engineers and other employees of other FDA activities for such purposes as exchanging techniques, technical information and ideas, collaborating on projects.
Conducts assessments, collects and analyzes/reduces scientific information from public and private sources; applies various techniques in scientific data collection; identifies significant factors affecting the research or assessment.

The position of Operations Research Analyst falls under the 1515 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-13, you must meet the following:
Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
