This engineer will be responsible for performing plastics/polymer engineering duties in tandem with the other members of the polymer group at SES. This position is expected to start as a support role to other engineers and scientists at SES, but would expand over time into direct consulting and testing efforts for external clients. The ideal candidate would have experience with troubleshooting molding equipment (predominately injection molding and/or blow molding), as well as an understanding of the interaction of molding process and part performance. The ideal candidate will also have a strong background in design for manufacturing, including an understanding of tool design and optimization.
This engineer will encompass multiple industrial sectors but will focus on consumer products and medical devices. In terms of resin types, this engineer will be expected to work with everything from commodity to engineering to high performance resins. This engineer will perform mold-flow simulations; troubleshoot injection molding, blow molding, and thermoforming operations; and perform polymer/plastic testing. It is expected that the engineer will be exposed to significant on-the-job training on the path to achieve these duties.
B.S., B.E., or equivalent degree in plastics engineering, polymer science/engineering, or material science/engineering
2-5 years of experience in industrial injection molding and/or blow molding processes
Understanding of Injection Molding Design for Manufacturing, Process Conditions, and Tooling
Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills
Responsible team player and able to work productively in a cross-functional team
Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Able to work creatively and efficiently to solve client issues
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
Commitment to safety
Experience with CAD and translating drawings to tooling is preferred
Experience with simulation such as Moldflow and/or Moldex3D is preferred
Experience with multiple resins and how resin properties affect mold design and molding operation is preferred
Experience with standard polymer test equipment and methods is preferred
