Description of Work
Under the general supervision of the Director of Engineering, performs a variety of professional engineering work associated with power plants, gas distribution system, propane air plants, water distribution and treatment system, and wastewater collection and treatment system.
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Biological Systems, or equivalent engineering degree from a university or college. Three to five years of engineering experience preferred. Must possess valid State driver’s license. Natural gas experience is also a preference.
Essential Functions of the Job
*Prepares design drawings, specifications, and bid documents utilizing an array of tools including CAD, GIS, and Microsoft suite for engineering projects. Performs complex engineering calculations.
*Aides in design along with making recommendations and decisions concerning the engineering, design, operation and maintenance of power plants, natural gas distribution system, propane air plants, water distribution and treatment system, and wastewater collection and treatment system.
*Performs technical operational analysis and provides guidance on technical matters for improved reliability, performance, reduced emissions, and improved efficiency of plant equipment including steam boilers, steam turbines, pumps, fans, compressors, heat exchangers, ash systems, air quality control equipment, coal pulverizers, propane air facilities, potable and process water treatment systems, and wastewater collection and treatment systems. Analyzes data from power plant performance diagnostic software (OPM). Assists in evaluating and improving operation of plants for low and high load operation. Develops Standard Operating Plans. Troubleshoots problems and determines solutions.
*Familiar with all applicable codes related to the operation of power plants, propane air plants, natural gas Department of Transportation regulations, water distribution and treatment systems, and wastewater collection and treatment systems. Works closely with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
*Reviews shop drawings, inspects contractors work to insure that materials and quality of work conforms to design specifications, safety coordination, performs construction management and coordinates major construction projects with engineers and other contractors for power plants, natural gas system, propane/air plants, water treatment systems and wastewater treatment systems.
*Project manager for construction projects.
*Develop and maintain City of Hastings water, sewer, and natural gas design manuals.

*Prepares one and six year capital improvement budget estimates.
*Writes and gives technical reports.
*Performs other duties as assigned.
*Advocate for public awareness and education on water system.

Salary: $80,912.00 to $111,592.00 /year
