OVERVIEW: This position has the responsibility for the Quality Systems in the company from raw materials to finished goods. The Quality Engineer will use quality assessment tools to make recommendations for product improvements as well as formulating quality assurance policies. This position interfaces with Manufacturing, Engineering, Technical Services and external vendors. The Quality Engineer is responsible for internal audits, record keeping and maintaining quality documentation. This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager.

KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned or added as necessary)

  • Holds responsibility for processes and systems related to quality assurance
  • Formulates quality assurance policies to administer a quality assurance program
  • Drives continuous manufacturing improvement internally
  • Analyze the manufacturing process to determine where efficiencies can be achieved
  • Implements and maintains 5S strategies in the production space
  • Work with Engineering to identify quality deficiencies in internal documentation
  • Spot check incoming materials to audit vendor quality
  • Coach product finishers on inspection standards, data collection and tracking systems
  • Creates and maintains final check documentation for production
  • Oversees corrective action procedures in response to quality deficiencies
  • Administer the Non-Conforming Reports process for parts not made to print
  • Collect and process data quality deficiencies found in parts from vendors
  • Report to purchasing and external vendors on rejected parts and raw materials
  • Strategize and implement rework plans when defective parts can be recovered
  • Negotiate vendor chargeback and compensation caused by rework procedures
  • Perform first article inspections on wood and gas stoves
  • Inspect and report on subsequent shipments of parts that have a history of quality deficiencies
  • Maintains and oversees audits for third party agency certifications
  • Maintains calibration certifications for test equipment used in production

  • Accomplished in planning and organizing work – tenacious in following through to see multiple priorities to completion while working with various stakeholders
  • Stress tolerant when juggling high inquiry volume; able to manage perspective and appropriate urgency
  • Skilled in fundamental aspects of customer service and sales · Fluent in regular use of computer skills including Windows/Microsoft Office applications and database systems; capable of quickly learning and navigating new applications- including ease in looking up and accurately entering data
  • Pervious working knowledge of ERP/SAP software systems preferred. As is a familiarity with Dreamweaver or other HTML website content management platforms
  • Fluent in conversational and/or written French language (desirable, but not necessary)
  • Knowledgeable in gas appliances and wood stove use, maintenance, and installation
  • Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association 211 Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, and Solid Fuel-Burning Appliances

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

General knowledge and working understanding of Process Improvement Methodologies and data analysis techniques are necessary. Experience with SAP or a similar manufacturing software system is desirable. This position must have the ability to read technical drawings and work comfortably with Excel, Word and within large databases. The Quality Engineer must be completely comfortable and competent with all applications of Microsoft Office.

  • Minimum Associate’s Degree in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience in the field. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in manufacturing/ production environment and exposure to QA process

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Occasional lifting up to 70 LBS. This position is located within a manufacturing facility where employees might be subject to loud noise, moving machinery, and hazards. Safety equipment and proper clothing must be worn at all times in designated areas of the facility.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
