Overview:
Terex Utilities is a truck equipment final stage manufacturer of digger derricks, aerial devices and associated equipment for the utility industry, municipals, telecommunications, tree and electrical contractor markets.
Responsibilities:
We are looking to fill a position for a designer in the Installation Design Department. This is currently a full-time position that requires attention to detail and problem-solving aptitude. It is the designer's responsibility to design a 3-dimensional model and create the associated 2D shop drawings and bill of material. These documents allow for production to build the truck within the number of quoted labor hours at a high-quality level. Roles of this team member include, configuring the install to make sure the design is possible, managing the accuracy of outsourced bodies, creating quality drawings that confer all relevant information to production, and assembling a bill of materials that ensures all required components are provided for production. The core competency of this role is to design and supply all required information for production to have a successful build which directly leads to a high level of customer satisfaction. Below is a more detailed list of daily tasks.
Complete the weight study based on chassis capacities and all installed components
Create a SolidWorks model that matches the information provided in the customer specific quote
Create drawings that provide all information required to accurately build the truck
Create a bill of materials of all installation components
Work with Project Leaders to clear up any ambiguity to ensure customer acceptance
Update drawings and BOMs per Drawing Approval change orders
Create as-built drawings to reflect changes that happened during the build
Apply engineering design and fundamentals to newly established products or current products
Assign and conduct drawing changes and updates based on engineering principals
Work closely with vendors to ensure that purchased parts match required specifications
Create technical specifications based upon general instruction to support new and/or current products and to facilitate product assembly
Complete Engineering Change Notice (ECN) for release to document control.
Complete and sign-off controlling documentation as required while adhering to general engineering principals
Review technical documentation for accuracy
Design parts and assemblies with little to no instruction with designs to be reviewed by supervising engineer
Work with production team members to understand and resolve problems
Perform other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field by hire date
Graduated on or before June 2022
Knowledgeable in 3D design software. (SolidWorks preferred)
Must have knowledge and understanding of technical writing, blueprint reading, application of advance problem-solving skills
Involves sitting and must be able to lift 10 pounds occasionally, frequently lifting 1-2 pounds
In Watertown, SD or willing to relocate
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems theory and design
Ability to work independently.
Demonstrates knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and tools
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) software
Strong knowledge of welding process and welding application
Understanding of lean principals
Leader in problem solving, root cause analysis, and create solutions with little or no direction.
Ability to offer suggestions to improve product or design
Basic understanding of Finite Engineering Analysis (FEA) and how it applies to design of weldments
Knowledge of controller application and workings, new product development design cycle, project management, training, internship experience in related field
Demonstrated ability to communicate and understand general instruction to achieve desired outcome
