The Mission Systems Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) Hardware Engineering design team at Collins Aerospace is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our staff. This team ensures alignment of PNT products and programs with our key customer market segments while maximizing company and customer funding efficiencies through a product line approach. This position will be responsible to support mechanical hardware designs and digital hardware architectures for all PNT products.
The PNT Hardware Engineering team is focused on the development of the next generation military GPS based hardware products as well as maintaining legacy hardware product lines. This development is done for the full life cycle of the product (requirements/design through factory transition and sustainment) and will also utilize new product introduction processes. Additionally, the development will utilize a hardware product line approach to achieve optimal component and circuit card reuse across all hardware products.
Support mechanical design approaches and packaging techniques for the PNT organization
Contribute to hardware engineering requirements capture and analysis in area of domain expertise
Design, test, analyze, integrate, qualify and document hardware of moderate to high complexity
Work closely with other engineering disciplines (ie electrical, software and systems engineering) to ensure the Mechanical design is appropriate for the project/product design approach
Participate in cross-functional team efforts in integration, pre-qualification and qualification for products and sub-systems of moderate to high complexity
Conduct root-cause-analysis and technical investigations for software/hardware designs
Ensure proper packaging of systems to obtain optimal thermal and structural design
Provide engineering assistance to production, service, and repair personnel
Possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to write technical material and present to customers and mid-level managers
Able to work and communicate with representatives from various departments including Business Development, Finance, and Operations
Previous experience in testing of GPS products
Previous experience in operation of Antenna Electronic products
Experience in hardware development life cycle including requirements capture and verification, design and development, sub-level and system level integration and testing
Mechanical design experience including experience with CAD, thermal and structural tools and supervision and guidance to mechanical drafting
Be capable of hands-on troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment
Ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner and produce detailed, clear and concise technical documentation
Proficient in a 3D CAD solid modeling software package (SolidWorks and/or UG NX preferred)
Experience with FEA software package (ANSYS preferred)
Familiar with both thermal and structural testing and analysis
Experience with military aerospace testing standards
US Citizenship is required
Must be capable of obtaining a U.S. DoD Secret security clearance
This position requires Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline (STEM degree preferred) and less than 3 years of experience. In the absence of a degree, 4 years of experience is required.
