The Returnable Packaging Engineer is instrumental in the development and execution of returnable packaging solutions for all Strategic Business Units (SBUs) within Ingersoll-Rand. This position requires active and effective collaboration with Ingersoll Rand SBUs, sites, and Global Procurement. This position is responsible for the design, management, and execution of solutions in support of the returnable packaging strategy. The value of the position will be demonstrated in the identification, justification, and subsequent execution of returnable packaging solutions to optimize total cost of ownership and contribute to Ingersoll Rand's sustainability goals.
Design and implement optimized packaging solutions in collaboration with internal and external parties.
Lead returnable packaging projects to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals.
Partner with packaging vendors to design optimal returnable packaging solutions in line with project goals.
Deliver year-over-year productivity in line with company guidelines
Ownership of pipeline fill management to align with productivity deliverables
Drive continuous improvement through process ownership, lean tools, and strategy governance
Act as subject matter expert in returnable packing to help influence key operational decisions
Accountability through communication, presence, and action.
Excellent relationship building skills
Customer service focused and ability to develop and deliver creative and effective solutions
Bachelor's degree required; related engineering discipline preferred
2-4 years minimum relative packaging engineering experience required
Strong project management and communication skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analysis and problem solving skills (e.g., cost/benefit analysis, financial justification)
Ability to successfully manage and deliver complex projects
Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other regulatory policies
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, and Power Point.
Ability to travel up to 20%
