Associate Standards Engineer (R-19-1850)
This role is a part of the ongoing maintenance and development of best in class electric utility standards. In this role you will get to provide engineering expertise in a broad range of assignments related to transmission and distribution electric utility standards including both design and construction. This role is essential to the utility as it moves forward into the future of the electric grid. Your primary assignments willinclude overhead distribution design, transmission line design, materials specifications, construction practices and tools, and equipment specifications.
You will support our journey by:
Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices and independently applies professional knowledge of engineering processes and standards to assignments/projects.
Applies knowledge of transmission and design standards, including overhead/underground distribution design, construction practices and materials, design tools, techniques, regulatory requirements and applicable state and federal codes.
Prepares a variety of moderately complex engineering deliverables; leads smaller project teams. Develops engineering solutions that meet technical requirements, all applicable codes, regulatory requirements and follow sound engineering practice.
Completes a range of overhead or underground material and equipment specifications. Updates existing standards and work practices. Revises and implements underground material and equipment specifications, participates in standards review meetings and obtains input and technical data from various technical stakeholders.
Assigns tasks and coordinates with other internal/external team members on assigned projects; shares information and provides professional guidance in executing project tasks.
Provides engineering expertise to T&D standards projects with complex design, construction, operation, maintenance or testing elements in support of engineering and construction needs; contributes to capital budget and job estimates.
Shares current knowledge of latest technology and processes; may assist with mentoring, less experienced engineers. Will be expected to partner with both field and office personnel and communicate updates to Standards beign developed and modified by the group.
You will bring the following skills to our team:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering from ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency.
Preference for civil engineering degree
Typically two or more years in engineering.
Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.
Intermediate knowledge of engineering and economic principles and concepts.
Intermediate knowledge of other engineering disciplines and intermediate ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned.
Intermediate knowledge and application of engineering processes and procedures.
Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends.
Working knowledge of construction feasibility.
Working knowledge of transmission and distribution construction methods
Working knowledge of procurement and contract administration.
Intermediate knowledge of the NESC
Working knowledge of applicable IEEE/ANSI Standards
Intermediate knowledge of process, procedures for project controls and estimates.
Intermediate knowledge of initiating electrical improvements and corrective actions for distribution.
Intermediate knowledge of physical electrical and control and protection distribution design
Intermediate ability to review, evaluate and analyze technical information, policies and reports.
Strong desire to perform in-depth research into electric utility topics
