UES, Inc., an innovative science & technology company in Dayton, OH, has an immediate opening for a Vision Research Scientist to support our Flash and Laser Airborne Protection Systems (FLAPS) program supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate’s Photonic Materials Branch at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH.

The FLAPS program involves the development of aircrew eye protection systems addressing multiple wavelengths in the electro-magnetic spectrum. Technology development will involve both absorptive and reflective based technologies, and both static and dynamic (temporal and spectral) advanced filtering technologies. A multidisciplinary background in visual science and related fields is desired, including color vision, visual psychophysics and visual information processing architectures. The successful candidate will be joining an established, aggressive team leading the nation’s development in this field of study. Candidate will work with and study under senior vision scientists and engineers to form the backbone of the next generation of advancement.

The FLAPS development team plans, directs and conducts in-house and extramural research and development of materials technologies with an emphasis on functional applications with sufficient maturity to transition to the Air Force warfighter. Core focal areas develop material systems to protect aircrew eyes against a broad range of photonic energy.

Desired attributes include a multidisciplinary background in visual science-related fields including: sensory perception, visual physiology and psychophysics, human systems interface, advanced image processing, human information processing, human perception and performance, mathematical visualization, neurobiology and human factors engineering.

Requirements:
Ph.D. in relevant scientific or engineering field
5-8 years of experience in a research and development environment
Experience working in research laboratory environments; gov’t laboratory experience a plus
Must have the ability to obtain a SECRET level clearance. Eligibility for upgrade of clearance as needed (e.g. TS/SCI, SAP/SAR) is also required
This position is working within a government facility and requires U.S. Citizenship
