Our Port and Marine Terminals group is currently made up of teams spread across North America and globally, including Vancouver, Houston, Montreal, Milan and Boston. The group provides services for all phases of a project's life cycle, from planning through decommissioning including detailed design, construction and operation. Our many achievements include container terminals, oil and gas facilities, dry bulk ports, marinas, ferries, coastal structures, wharves, jetties, naval facilities and cruise terminals.
In this position as a Structural Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work as part of the Ports and Marine Terminals team of planners, engineers and technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients. Your Key Responsibilities
Performs structural engineering design tasks on assigned port and marine structures related projects.
Performs basic calculations along with structural analysis and modeling.
Assists in the preparation of engineering project documents including drawings, reports, specifications and costs estimates, client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
Attends and assists in client/contractor/stakeholder meetings to gain a better understanding of client’s goals.
Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
Utilizes relevant software programs including SAP2000 to prepare analysis, design, and complex working drawings. Continues to develop skills using software programs for design and/or drafting.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable port design standards and guidelines
Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.
Working knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions and developing jurisdictional experience and contacts.
Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite and SAP2000
Developing ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field. EIT or Licensed Professional Engineer. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience.
Previous experience in port and marine terminals design working with multidiscipline teams on a wide variety of Ports & Marine Terminals projects including a variety of marine structures.
Demonstrated technical skills on projects and in particular marine structures including wharves, piers and jetties.
